Gila monster halts highway traffic

SIERRA VISTA — Highway traffic was halted west of Bisbee earlier this month when one of the Southwest’s most iconic animals made a leisurely path across the roadway.

It was just about 9 a.m. when a gila monster brought traffic on Highway 92 to a standstill for several moments as it meandered from one side to the other.

Local Rotary Clubs pull together on playground

More than 20 members of the four Sierra Vista Rotary clubs gathered at Town and Country Elementary school early Saturday morning to complete phase one of a $16,000 project to upgrade the playground for the school’s special needs and new daycare and preschool students.

This first phase included the laying of a new tricycle and scooter track, the planting of  a second shade tree, painting of existing playground equipment, as well as the spreading of new rubberized playground mulch to improve safety in the main play area.
