Buena rally comes up short in state opener

BUCKEYE — Buena’s third straight trip to the state tournament ended the same way the last two did in a first-round loss.

On Saturday, the Colts, holders of the 24th and final seed, headed to Buckeye to take on Verrado, the No. 9 seed and came away on the short end of an 8-4 decision.

“I’m happy with the kids; they did a great job,” Buena head coach Mark Schaefer said. “It’s the kids. They worked hard and tried to learn stuff.”
