To the Editor:

I was dismayed with your 01-28-12 headline, “Says fort, community must take responsibility.” Dr. Silver has no empirical data nor is there any way to collect such data showing the “San Pedro-destroying, groundwater dependent activity.”

His claims that the water umbel and fly catchers are endangered by pumping groundwater do not wash. Texas has de-listed the fly catcher and the umbels are thriving in Huachuca Canyon far from the San Pedro.

Veterans come in many sizes and shapes, and from many conflicts and peace time, but what they all have in common in this economy is making ends meet.

What happens when the rent is due, utilities are about to be turned off or someone that you depend on dies and your income seems to vanish? Boots For Our Troops Foundation is a Arizona statewide charity that has been filling many of these gaps.

Sierra Vista United Methodist Church (SVUMC) will hold its 8th Annual Western Heritage on Feb. 5. This special Sunday recalls the bold men and women who built the Old West. All services will feature special music by the SVUMC Choir, the Sugartones, Thunder Mountain 4, Desert Song, The Cochise Chordsmen, and the Arthritis Brothers. The message will be in the unique form of a western drama, presented via old-time radio format.

The caption for a photograph on page A1 of the Thursday, Feb. 2 edition of the Herald/Review incorrectly listed the position held by Jerry Proctor, who presented aviation wings to a soldier graduating from the Unmanned Aerial System Operations school on Fort Huachuca. Proctor is the Deputy to the Commanding General of the Intelligence Center of Excellence.

An article published on page B1 of the Thursday, Feb. 2 edition of the Herald/Review listed the spelling of James Talbot incorrectly.
