The Buena High School honor band will perform Thursday, Feb. 9. The concert is free and begins at 7 p.m. at the Buena Performing Arts Center. In addition to its full concert program, the Honor Band will premier the school’s alma mater, recommissioned by Buena alum Daniel Leo Simpson, class of 1969.

Choosing a college major is one of the most difficult decisions students will face in their academic careers. That’s why Cochise College is hosting events to help high school and college students learn about the wide array of available career programs located close to home, and find the direction that’s best suited for them.

Meet Your Major and High School Expo events will be held Feb. 13 at the Sierra Vista Campus Student Union and March 28 at the Douglas Campus. 

Sierra Vista United Methodist Church (SVUMC) will hold its 8th Annual Western Heritage on Feb. 5. This special Sunday recalls the bold men and women who built the Old West. All services will feature special music by the SVUMC Choir, the Sugartones, Thunder Mountain 4, Desert Song, The Cochise Chordsmen, and the Arthritis Brothers. The message will be in the unique form of a western drama, presented via old-time radio format.

The Boys & Girls Club of Bisbee is assisting the Cochise County Humane Society by selling 2012 calendars with photos of local dogs for $10. Club hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All proceeds support Cochise County Humane Society. The club will be selling them through February. 

One of the leading playwrights and novelists of the Southwestern region will be the keynote presenter at the 14th annual Cochise Community Creative Writing Celebration to be held March 30-31.

Denise Chávez, a novelist, playwright, teacher and performance writer based in Las Cruces and Mesilla, N.M., will present her keynote address, Remembering the Sacred, at 11 a.m. on the opening day of the event.
