Delwin R. Kruschke

Delwin R, Kruschke, 82, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center, in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Del was born on Sunday, Dec. 25, 1932, in LaMars, N.D., to the late Orville and Myrtle Kruschke.
Del proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman on the USS Shelkoff. After his discharge for the Navy he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a master’s in finance. He received his Certified Public Accountant in 1978. He was an avid runner completing in seven marathons as well as countless other races. He continued to race until he was 80.

Melvin Bruce Ray, Sr.

On March 18, 2015, God decided that he needed another angel and called our beloved husband, father and grandfather home. Melvin was born in Jerome, Ariz., to Ernest Lee and Vernice Bunker Ray. His father later joined the Air Force and Melvin got to see the world, graduating from Wilhoite Mack High School in Morocco, Africa, in 1961. While working for his uncle in Bisbee, Ariz., while waiting for his mission call with the LDS church he met the love of his life Sue Ellen Cooke. They married in 1965 and spent 49 years full of love and hope together.

Edward Lewis Konkol "Lalo"

Edward Konkol, 66, passed away March 16, 2015. He was born Feb. 22, 1949 in St. Louis, Mo., to Ralph and Blanche (Newburn) Konkol.

Edward is a Vietnam Combat Veteran. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as an SFC.

He was known as a nomadic traveler.

Edward is survived by his son, Greg Konkol of Phenix City, Ala.; a granddaughter, Meagan Konkol of Phenix City, Ala.; and his soulmate, Vickie Konkol of Aberdeen, N.C.

Graveside services with full military honors, will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2015, at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Michael A. Schaeffer

Michael A. Schaeffer passed away in his home, with his family by his side, on March 18, 2015, in Sierra Vista, Ariz., after a courageous fight with esophageal cancer. He was 65.

Richard “Dick” White, Lt. Col. United States Army (Ret.)

Retired Lt.Col. United States Army, Richard “Dick” White, 84, beloved husband and best friend to Sherry (Bannan) White for 30 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones and beloved dogs. Besides his loving wife Sherry, Dick is survived by his daughters, Linda Crowder and her husband, Alan, Christa Gyori and her husband, Brad; step-son Mike Groom and his wife, Kristin; step-daughter Sandy Fleck and her husband, Stuart; sister, Norma Carter and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Tyler Bastine, Erin (Brandon) Eleuterio, Jackson Gyori, Faith Fleck, Ashley Groom, Trinity Fleck, Maya Gyori, Adam Groom and Brooke Groom; nieces and nephews and many close friends. Dick was preceded in death by his son, William Richard White.

Nicholas Robert Malarchik

Nicholas Robert Malarchik, 26, resident of Tucson, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12, 2015, of natural causes. 

Nick was born on Sept. 21, 1988, in Providence, R.I. As the youngest of four siblings, he enjoyed an adventurous childhood, appreciating long, beautiful hikes, crazy road trips, love of animals, and the joyful, unconditional love of his large and supportive family. 

Maria Erna Fernau

Maria Erna Fernau, a 35-year resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away at her home March 6, 2015, surrounded by her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Konrad Fernau; daughter, Karen Palmieri; granddaughter, Melissa Palmieri; and great-great-grandson, Vincent Palmieri.

Maria is survived by her grandchildren, Dawn Bohlen, Darlene Barrowclough, Pete Palmieri (Diana); great-grandchildren, Deanna, Michael, Daniel, Diane, Ashley, Matthew, Breanna, Destiny, Dakota and Nicholas; and great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Damian, Angelina, Andrew, Danny, Aubriana, Serenity, Sienna and Ava.

Private family interment will be at the Mother Teresa Columbarium, at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Community.

Michael Sam Garrett

Michael Sam Garrett, 62, of Huachuca City, passed away on Feb. 27, 2015, from injuries sustained from a car accident at mile post 310 in Huachuca City.

He was born in Fort Benning, Ga., on Nov. 19, 1952, to Frances F. Garrett (d. Jan., 2007) and Sam M. Garrett (d.July, 1994). He married Pamela Coolidge Garrett (Griggs) of Sierra Vista, on Feb. 28, 2004. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2006.

He is survived by one sister, Gina G. Tapia of Tucson; one brother, Greg C. Garrett of Phoenix; six stepchildren, from his marriage to Pamela Coolidge Garrett, Shannon, Kristen, Jansen, Logan, Megan and Bryson Griggs; five nieces and two nephews; five step-grandchildren and one grandniece.

Richard Roland White

Richard Roland White, 84, of Sierra Vista, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at home.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
