Linda Smith

Linda Biedul Smith left this Earth in the early morning hours of April 7, 2015, on the wings of angels, bringing her to Our Loving Father’s arms. Linda was born Feb. 16, 1943, to Edward and Susan Biedul and joined a big brother, Gerald, at their home in beautiful rural northwest New Jersey.

Linda and Ron Smith were married in Corenc, France, on Dec. 23, 1987. They lived in several states before retiring to Sierra Vista in 2005. Linda was an avid bridge player in addition to loving golf, gardening and needlework. All those who met Linda became instant friends.

Gloria Murray

This is in remembrance of Gloria Joyce (Hartman) Murray, a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, who passed away at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Care Center on Good Friday, April 3, 2015, at approximately 8:11 p.m.

She was preceded to the everlasting embrace of kindness by her father, Werner C. Hartman; mother, Arletta M. (Heath) Hartman; her husband, Jack E. Murray, (Ret.) MSgt., U.S. Army on June 13, 2005; brothers, Bill Hartman; Jack Hartman; and a sister, Diane (Hartman) Zink.

She is survived by her daughter,Julia B. Murray of Sierra Vista; son, Dean Murray of Rockaway Beach, Ore., Steven Murray of Vancouver, Washington and a grandson, Deven Murray of Corvallis, Oregon.

James Allen Douglass

James Allen Douglass, or Jim as he was known by most, age 80, of Safford, quietly passed away Thursday evening, April 2, 2015.

James “Jim” Douglass was born on Dec. 29, 1934, in Salinas, Calif., to Everett and Mary Douglass. Jim and his family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he spent his youth. In 1953, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for four years as a military police officer. 

In 1956, Jim met the love of his life, Bonnie Findley. They were married in Lordsburg, N.M., and have been together for 59 years.

Eugene Edward Krug

Eugene Edward Krug, 86, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., formerly of Rock Island, Ill., passed away April 6, 2015, at the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

Ivan L. LoVette

Ivan L. LoVette passed away on Feb. 20, 2015. Services will be held on Friday, April 10, at 3 p.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Ariz.

William "Bill" Larkin Merritt

William “Bill” Larkin Merritt was born Jan. 30, 1946, in Arkadelphia, Ark. His family moved to Riceville, Iowa, when he was seven. 

He went to Henderson State College to escape the cold. He became a commercial and residential journeyman electrician during his college days. He graduated in 1968 with a BS in physics and minor in math. On an ROTC scholarship, he was appointed an Army officer upon graduation.  

Edward J. Farrell

Edward J. Farrell, 69 of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died March 22, 2015, from lung cancer.  

He was born April 22, 1945, in Streator, Ill., to John and Margaret Farrell, their only child.

He graduated high school from Cazenovia Central School in June of 1963 in Cazenovia, N.Y.

In August of 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany, Thailand, Spain, Panama, several stations in the U.S. to include Fort Huachuaca, Ariz., where he retired in 1983.

After his service in the U.S. Army he worked for Desert Concrete, Sierra Redi Mix, United Metro and Rinker. He retired in 2007. 

Bobby G. Copeland

Bobby Gene Copeland has now made the journey home to our Lord and Savior. He passed away at Life Care Center of Sierra Vista on March 28, 2015.

He was born July 30, 1935, in Cushing, Okla., the son of Elbert and Maezella (Worley) Copeland.

Bobby spent his early years growing up in the little sleepy town of Cushing. Where he attended elementary and junior high school. He then relocated to Detroit, Mich., with his family in 1950.

While in high school, Bobby learned to box, later he join a boxing club. For the next few years he boxed Golden Gloves at the amateur level. During that time he was a sparring partner for Sugar Ray Robinson, as well as some of the other very well know boxers of that era.

Linda G. Drummond

Linda Gay Drummond, 72, longtime resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on April 3, 2015, at her home Sierra Vista, Ariz.   

Linda was born on Oct. 19, 1942, in Cortland, N.Y., to Mortimer and Margaret Bancroft. She married Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. John “Jack” Drummond on Oct. 22, 2001. They married late in life, but lived it to the fullest during their time together. Jack passed away in 2014. Linda was a loving caring and sensitive wife, mother and grandmother. She was a close friend, confidant and help-mate to family and friends alike. She will be sorely missed.

Alice Carmella (Sanders) Truitt

Alice Carmella (Sanders) Truitt, 90, passed away on March 16, 2015. A memorial potluck luncheon will be held Friday, April 10, 2015, at noon at the Ethel Berger Center.
