Pamela Faye Sanders

Pamela Faye Sanders, age 62, passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Solace Assisted Living in Sierra Vista. Pam had been battling cancer for several months.
She was born in Bisbee, then Pam’s family moved to Elfrida, where she attended school graduating from Elfrida High School. Pam attended Cochise College and graduated from Northern Arizona University.
Pam’s life was dedicated to teaching. After graduating from NAU, she taught for five years at Naco Elementary School. For the last 35 years she taught at Double Adobe Elementary School. When she retired in July 2014, she was the head teacher at Double Adobe.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She attended First Southern Baptist Church in Warren.

Henry Thomas Williams

Henry Thomas Williams, Hank, passed away on Friday morning, May 8, 2015 near his home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., after succumbing to serious illness. Hank recently had celebrated his 63 wedding anniversary, traveling across Europe with his family.

Josephine L Knutson

Josephine L Knutson (nee Kacvinsky) passed away on April 22, 2015, at Condell Hospital in Libertyville, Ill. She was born on May 28, 1919, in Streator, Ill., to Anna (Novotney) and John Kacvinsky. She attended St. Stephen’s school and graduated from Streator Township High School.

On May 1, 1948, she married Wade H. Knutson. Wade was in the Navy and they lived in several different cities and states within the U.S. They were also stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the early 1960s.

Esther Almandarez Rivera

Esther Almandarez Rivera, age 76, of Bisbee, born Esther Almandarez April 14, 1939, in Douglas, Ariz., went home to be with her Lord God May 5, 2015.

Esther who will always be known as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a great cook and “patas caliente shopper,” graduated from Bisbee High School in 1958. Upon graduation she became employed by the U.S. Department of the Army on Fort Huachuca where she retired after 36 years of service. This is where she met the love of her life and husband, Joseph “Big Joe” Rivera, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2006. They were married April 4, 1959. They had three loving children together and a very happy and extensive family.

James P. “Jim” Estes Jr.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 6:15 a.m James P. “Jim” Estes Jr., 68, lost his battle with lung cancer at his home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., in the loving arms of his wife Theresa Estes. Born at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill., at 5:24 a.m. on March 28, 1947, to James P. Estes Sr. and Betty Estes, Jim learned hard work and a dedication to family through their loving guidance. Despite his birth in Illinois, his heart was that of a true Arizonian since his arrival in his younger years. He attended Tucson Public Schools until he returned to Illinois to live with his grandparents, where he graduated from Johnson City High School in 1966. 

Marvin W. Zumwalt

Marvin W. Zumwalt, 88, a resident of Sierra Vista for 29 years, passed away on May 6, 2015.

Marvin served in the U.S. Navy from December 1943 to August 1964 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Zumwalt; a son, Marvin C. Zumwalt of North Carolina; a daughter, Susan E. Devereaux of Virginia; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted by Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary.

Charles A. (Chuck) Milk

Charles Milk, age 94, a 41-year resident of Hereford, Ariz., passed away peacefully May 8, 2015. Chuck, as he was known to most, was born in Union City, N.J., to Charles Milk and Mary Julia (Boyle) Milk. He blessed his family with wit and humor almost to the end of his life. He loved his family very much and reiterated that on his 94th birthday. He earned a lot of respect from everyone as he was always ready to help anyone whenever needed. He was a “Jack of all trades” and worked at that a few years after he retired from civil service. The only things he couldn’t fix were electronic devices. He built his own home at age 65 with the help from his wife, Beverly, sons and some friends who lent a hand.

Edith Marie Mize

Edith Marie Mize, 90, of Huachuca City passed away at Villa Vista Assisted Living Center in Sierra Vista.

Cresencio Tablac Vega

Cresencio Tablac Vega, 87, of Sierra Vista, passed away on Friday May 1, 2015, at Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church. Assisting the family was Hatfield Funeral Home.

Cresencio “Sonny” Vega

On Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2015, Cresencio “Sonny” Vega left this world to be reunited with his wife, Gina. Born in the Philippines, Sonny learned at an early age that self-sufficiency and a deep faith in God would be the two characteristics that would carry him through some of the most dangerous times in his life, particularly when he was stationed in Vietnam.
