George W.'Smoky' Hessert, Jr.

George W. ‘Smoky’ Hessert, Jr., (Ret. MSG U.S. Army), 77, of Sierra Vista, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at home with his family by his side.

George was born on Aug. 14, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to George and Annie Hessert. George enlisted in the National Guard while he was still in high school. After graduating from Calvert County High School he enlisted full time in the United States Army. He proudly served for more than 20 years retiring as Master Sergeant in 1976. His military career took him all over the world. While stationed in Germany he met the love of his life and married in 1958. 

Joy Ann Ayers

Joy Ann Ayers of Sierra Vista, passed away on June 13, 2015. Joy was born on July 28, 1954, in Fort Gordon, Ga., to Harvey and Mary Ayers.

She is survived by her brother Jim (Shelley) Ayers; Edna (Buster) Arnold; Betty Ayers; Susie (Steve) Willsey. They all reside in Sierra Vista. Joy is also survived by her nephews and nieces (Jennifer, Scott, Christopher, Tamela, Renee, Daniel, Duane, Jaimee) and great-nephews and nieces (Josh, Abby, Mariah, Sydney, Robert, X, and Hunter). Preceding her passing was her mother Mary, her father, Harvey and her brother George. 

Marjorie R. (Morrison) Erbst–Travis

Marjorie R. (Morrison) Erbst–Travis, 84, went to the arms of our Heavenly Father on May 29, 2015. She was the wife of the late Herman Erbst and Jim Travis. Survived by her children, Gary Erbst, Cheryl Geiner, Pamela (John) Waters, Donna (Michael) Dietrich; sisters, Margret Dalessandro and Audrey Bailey; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

George Sennett

George Sennett passed away in his sleep on June 20, 2015, at 84. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Robert.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Sennett; sister, Carol Williams; children, Carol Tucker, George H. Sennett, Tyce Thompson Sr. and Phyllis Sennett; grandchildren, Tyce Thompson Jr. and Robert Thompson.

George was born in Herkimer, N.Y., on Feb. 25, 1931.

A memoral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, at First Southern Baptist Church in Bisbee at 11 a.m.

William N. Burkhardt Sr.

In loving memory of Chicago and retired Arizona resident William N. Burkhardt Sr. Born in Chicago on September 26, 1937. Bill peacefully past in his Hereford, Ariz. home on June 17, 2015 at the age of 77.

Known by many to be a kind hearted, and very generous man. He was a huge animal lover, sports enthusiast and conversationalist. His devotion to his family was unmatched. He graduated in 1955 from Lane Tech High School, in Chicago. He worked hard as a member of the Glazier Union Local 29 for over 45 years helping to build sky scrapers.

Bill was a proud military veteran as an MP and a Combat Engineer with the 54th Army Core of Engineers based in Wildflecken, Germany.

Elder (Dr.) Joseph G. Barnhardt Sr., CPC, CPE, CBC (SFC, U.S. Army, Ret.)

Elder Barnhardt left this weary life and now calls glory his home with Jesus until that great raptured day. He was known as a brother (the fourth of five), the son of Kenneth E. and Inez C. Barnhardt (both preceded him in death). He was born in the hills of West Virginia and he was proud to be called a hillbilly.

Joseph Michael McKearney

Joseph McKearney was born on Aug. 20, 1947, to Josephine and James McKearney in Gladwin, Mich. When he was still young, the family relocated to Tucson, Ariz., where he was a student in the Amphi School District. Joe began working at a young age and spoke often about his experiences as a ranch hand in those days. Joe enjoyed sports and had fond memories of playing baseball and being an all star pitcher in the Tucson little league. During the Vietnam War, he was drafted into the Army and served in a reconnaissance unit stationed in Augsburg, Germany.

Jean Mary “Pinky” Kennedy

Jean Mary “Pinky” Kennedy, 84, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on June 12, 2015. She was born in Grafton, N.D., to Bradley and Bessie Smith. Pinky is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years Donald Kennedy, son Brad (Angelika) Kennedy of Florida, daughter Mary-Jean (Steve) Wallace of Arizona, and her sister Janat Hudson. Pinky was especially proud of her five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and was looking forward to the upcoming births of two more great-grandchildren this year. Her extended family consists of many nieces and nephews and close friends.  

David Sidney Strickland

David Sidney Strickland, 59, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., is with the Great Spirit since Friday, June 12, 2015. After a five-year battle with colon and metastatic lung cancer he died peacefully at the home he shared with his wife and life partner of more than 21 years, Shelley Cranford.

William N. Burkhardt Sr.

William N. Burkhardt Sr., 77, a resident of Hereford passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. A full obituary will run Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
