Lealund Arnell Ellis

Lealund Arnell Ellis passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015, at home, surrounded by family. He fought a courageous battle with colon and liver cancer. 

He was born on June 28, 1962, to Elaine Staley and John Roy Ellis in Nampa, Idaho. He grew up in Layton, Utah, and graduated from Layton High school in 1979. He loved playing sports — especially basketball. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many positions working with young men and most recently as the Executive Secretary to the Bishop.

Bernice H. Pitts

Bernice H. Pitts, 90, a resident of Sierra Vista, passed away at Hacienda Nursing Center on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Max and Elsa Gertrude (Uhlig) Dietrich, both of Germany.

She moved to Vineland, N.J., at the age of 6 with her family. Bernice relocated to New Mexico in 1995 to be closer to her family and then to Sierra Vista in 1995 to be with her son, James E. Pitts III and wife Lori Pitts and family. Bernice was with her son and family until she moved to Hacienda Nursing Home in Sierra Vista.

John J. Sheedy Jr.

John J. Sheedy Jr. of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Wanda Sheedy; three daughters, Kala Sheedy, Amanda (Robert) Sheedy–Rice, Jessica (Scott) Mac Farlane, one son, Jason M. Shaw; and two grandchildren, his beloved twin boys, Aydan and Zane Shaw.

The family would like to thank Dr. Parag Patel, Dr. Guy Cary, Dr. Stephen Hetz and Valor Hospice Care of Sierra Vista, Ariz., for their warmhearted acts of kindness and support through this difficult time.

Samuel C. Williams Jr.

Samuel C. Williams Jr., age 74, passed away on July 21, 2015, in Salt Lake City, Utah, while visiting family. Sam was born on Aug. 23, 1940, in Ft. Collins, Colo., to Samuel C. Williams Sr. and Wanza Lucille Prichard. The youngest of four boys, he kept the family very busy. He married Nola Lucille Coffin on Nov. 5, 1961. Sam and Nola built their home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1972. Sam served for 20 years in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class from Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Following his retirement, Sam worked in various different positions, the last 10-12 years were spent as a school bus driver. He truly enjoyed the time he spent transporting “his kids” to school and various events.

Carol Mae Ney

Carol lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, July 26, 2015, in Albuquerque, N.M., at the University of New Mexico Hospital. She was born in Pottsville, Pa., to Carl and Coral Nuebling.

She is survived by her three children, Beth Dennis and Carl.

Lealund Arnell Ellis, 53, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on July 27, 2015, at home. Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1655 Avenida del Sol. Funeral services will also be on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with interment following at Cochise Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Bertha M. Gonzales

Bertha M. Gonzales, 86, of Sierra Vista, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Bertha was born on April 29, 1929, in Douglas, Ariz., to the late Manuel and Cecilia Rodriguez.

Nolean Branstetter

Nolean Branstetter, age 83, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015, at his home with family by his side. He was born May 13, 1932, in Mansfield, Mo., to Raymond and Edna Branstetter. He married his beloved wife and best friend, Waltraud “Wally” Braum, on May 19, 1959, in Bad Homburg, Germany, and has lived in Sierra Vista, Ariz., for nearly 50 years.

William Lamar Nelms

William Lamar Nelms, 62, was born on Jan. 5, 1953, in Griffin, Ga., to Lamar C. and Geneva (Williams) Nelms. He went home to glory on July 18, 2015, after a struggle with several medical conditions. He passed away comfortably in his bed surrounded by family and church family.

He was an athlete in his youth, a scholar and a man who loved laugher. Most of all he loved God and his son Jesus, his wife, his children and his church family (Bethlehem Holy Ghost Headquarters Church). He was a church deacon, a beloved Sunday school teacher, and a songwriter for the church choir, an author, a bible scholar, an Elder and a spiritual warrior.
