SIERRA VISTA — The city of Sierra Vista moved one step closer to its goal of installing red light and speed enforcement cameras at four local intersections during a city council meeting on Thursday.

Marcie works in Greely. That explains it all. Post email info never comes
across the same to everyone. They like to interpret it their own way…..

I really dislike the lights at Hwy 90 & Charleston. You can enter the
intersection on green but by the time you make your way through the
intersection (and I am no slow poke), it is red… Now, if they put a speed
monitoring device on this intersection, they need to correct the timing of
the lights from green to yellow to red… rather than a green to barely
yellow to fast red. Otherwise, several citizens will end up with speeding
tickets at that light… especially those who are aware of the mess going on
with them now.

The Washington Post ran a story about the photo enforcement cameras. An
independent study found that red light cameras INCREASED accidents at
intersections by an average of 50%. Yes, they INCREASE accidents at
intersections. The only reason to have them is for the money. As for photo
enforcement for speed, the study found that accidents decreased by 19% in
enforcement zones. But in non-enforcement zones accidents decreased by 24% as
the number of accidents nationwide has dropped dramatically the last few
years. This means that there are MORE accidents in photo enforcement zones
than in non-photo enforcement zones. Hopefully, the vote to remove the
cameras will make the ballot this year and the cameras will be voted out of
the state.

Title: Correct

Your assessment is correct, all one needs to do is to look at Phoenix
Arizona, speed violations remain the same, traffic accidents have gone up and
offset the very small actual reduction in red light running related
accidents. Our city is out of touch, they need to listen to the people AND
look at facts before committing so much money to something that they are not
even going to get revenues for.

Traffic lights help promote the orderly, safe and efficient movement of
vehicle traffic. Stop lights do non of the above….Sierra Vista has stop
lights. You can drive from Ramsey Road and Hwy 92 to MLK and Hwy 90 and never
catch a green light no matter what speed you travel. Everyone has heard about
the blah blah from city hall, ADOT etc. about the timing of the signals. No
matter how you time the lights someone will be unhappy with it. Its probably
some blue haired conspiracy anyway. Seriously, if you want to do something
about traffic safety in this town you need to get some of these people off
the road. Stop lights and blue hairs are a dangerous combination.

Title: This Stinks!

This wreaks of a pack of money grubbing politicians at their worst. At a time
when many, many communities are removing these blood sucking devices after
foisting them on their residents, here we go, installing them! I’m sure these
despicable ‘leaders’ can find whole bunches of them used on ebay to scrimp
even more pennies! The only outcome of this is guaranteed public backlash.
Mark my words.

I can think of 3 more intersections, 7th and the by-pass. At 0510-0520 people
traveling on the by-pass think it’s their raceway. It’s a dark area and cars
go through on a regular basis. Also the 2 intersections for getting on post.
The gates are Fry gate and the Main gate. People making left turns and
blocking the intersection. I was taught you were not to make a left turn if
you were not able to clear the intersection on the green light. All to often
people keep turning blocking the intersection and then the next group gets
 stuck.

Title: Huh?

Marcie do you ever know what you are talking about on these boards? The Fry
gate and Main gate are the same. You must be talking about the east gate
which is on the bypass and BST.

Effective Feb 8th they are changing the names of the gates. I used those
names early. There will no longer be an East gate. It will be known as the
main gate. And the other gate will be known as Fry Blvd gate. There will be a
difference. I do know the east gate. I use it in the mornings getting to
 work.

You are wrong again. I got an email 2 days ago that specifies the names will
not change on 8 Feb as you say. In fact they don’t even mention a Fry Gate.
They mention the East Gate, Main gate, and Wilcox gate. BTW this email came
from the FHU Service desk. Next time back your story up.
