Berean basketball in state semifinals

PHOENIX — The Berean Academy boys basketball team moved on to the semifinals of the Arizona Charter Athletic Association Class 2A state tournament with a 36-28 win over Mission Academy of Queen Creek on Wednesday to advance to Friday night’s semifinals at Phoenix College.

In one of the uglier games the Eagles have played in this undefeated season, Berean led by just one at the three-minute mark, when senior guard Kaine Gill drilled a 3-pointer that gave the Eagles some breathing room that they took good care of the rest of the way.

“That was kind of the momentum we needed to get us over the hump,” said Berean head coach Jason Harrell, whose team improved to 19-0 on the season. “It was back and forth the whole game.”
