Cochise mens hoops team wins 12th straight; women suffer 2nd loss

PHOENIX — The Cochise College men’s basketball team won its 12th straight game on Saturday, beating Westwind Prep International 102-86 at Phoenix College.

Despite the rather easy win, head coach Jerry Carrillo was not impressed with his team’s effort. “We led the entire game, but we didn’t play exceptionally well, especially on defense,” he said. “We’ve got to get better defensively. We led the entire way by 12 to 20, never got it over 20.”

Jordan Russell led the Apaches in scoring with 18 points followed by Jerry Duckworth with 17 including five 3-pointers, a day after going 4-of-6 from behind the arc in a 103-75 win over Frasier College of Vancouver.
