Our View: Embargo has run its course

On Sunday, we reported that a Bisbee resident had joined a group on a trip to Cuba.

Since the 1960s, a trade ban and a travel ban have existed between the U.S. and that communist country.

Cecile Lumer was one of 85 people who ignored the ban with a trip organized by the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization/Pastors for Peace.

The group took with it more than 100 tons of humanitarian aid, including several school buses, for use by Cuban churches, hospitals and schools.

Title: Embargos

How long can any embargo last? This one must have set a record. I hope the
embargos against our state of Arizona does not last as long as the subject
embargo. It’s needlessnly costing Arizona money. Democrat Grijalva started it
and I hope the other Democrat Representative helps ends it.

Title: Excellent.

We should give the Federal government a third finger salute on this—as on so
many other—issues. Cecile Lumer (sure this is spelled correctly?) is an open
border advocate who visits Comandante Marcos in Chiapas, but she’s right on
this one. Has guts too. Go, girl. We really ought to promote succession and
break this large, unwieldy country up into 3 or 4 more more manageable
pieces. Leave Florida on its own, or give it to Cuba. All those Cubans who
have taken over Florida could then, from a safe distance, do what they wish
with Cuba but leave the rest of us alone. We’ve spent 50-plus years fighting
Communism. Why? Because our business interests were afraid Communism would
cut into their profits. So, after Korea, Viet Nam and other debacles,
Communism is shrinking. Think what we could have done with the money we
wasted on these “wars”. Didn’t think I’d ever hear/read anything like this
from the H/R - challenging authority. Imagine!

“George Schulz, called the embargo “insane” in a 2005 interview.” Is it
not insane to do business with Russia, China, Vietnam, etc, all communist
countries, and we have an embargo against Cuba? It’s like our congressional
leader saying that all who object to the mosque being built in New York
should be investigated. Isn’t that an insane idea? The worl must be busting
their side laughing at us,
