Our View: Sad to see students trip nixed
As we reported Thursday, elementary school students from Arizpe, Mexico, will not be visiting their exchange partners in Palominas this year.
The purported reason is because of a travel warning issued by the Mexican government. The passage of Senate Bill 1070 and later House Bill 1612 by the Arizona Legislature was the impetus behind Mexico’s action.

Let’s see if I can get this straight, it’s a shame that a school in Mexico
cancelled its trip to the U.S due to our laws that triggered a “travel
warning” by Mexico. But the U.S. State Dept issues a travel warning about the
drug cartel violence in Mexico, and the U.S. schools don’t even consider
canceling a trip to Mexico.
Just another “Do it…for the CHILDREN!” shtick.
This is nothing but political grandstanding to keep the U.S. money sent back
by illegal aliens flowing to Mexico; rather than get the corrupt politicians
out and let the rich country thrive.
once again the Herald wants to focus on a topic that won’t help these kids
get jobs and be competitive. instead lets focus on the “cultrual” aspects
that wont put money in thier pocket nor food on the table.
No worries, this too shall pass into history. And, from what I can tell, the
chances of us building a sound relationship with our neighbors to the south
has also passed. At least, not until they get their house in order down
there. Maybe it’s all for the best. The school system can save the money for
something else and the kids can have more time to crack the books.
