 Truda (Gray) Fail was born on Nov. 30, 1931, in Hall County, Texas. Her parents were Wheeler and Minnie (Bartlett) Gray. She grew up in Anson, Texas, where she attended high school, graduating in 1949. There she excelled in tennis, playing in the state championship games her senior year. She attended Hardin-Simmons University and at the age of 19, married Eulan Thomas (Tom) Fail. Shortly thereafter she assumed the role of an army wife for the next 28 years. Truda was a devoted mother to her two daughters and was innovative in creating games for them to play.
