Most get recycling message, some did not

SIERRA VISTA— It looks like about nine of ten Sierra Vista refuse customers have gotten the city’s message, while the rest came home to a full green trash bin sitting on the curb Thursday.

By the looks of it, Sierra Vista has finally gotten its Garbage Police. Too
bad the citizens don’t have a choice on who their garbage collectors are.

Title: Not quite

Looks more like 20% or more didn’t get the message today, according to my
quick neighborhood survey. There really should be a decrease in the rates we
pay for City sanitation… half the trash pickups, which NOT a welcome
change, and many of us won’t be putting the blue bins out more than once or
twice a month, so the rounds will be much quicker for the crews on recycle
days. And they don’t have to pick up on Wednesdays now, too. Seems like a
huge labor savings that should be passed on to customers!

Title: No Choice

So now I’m paying the more for half the service - or is it that I’m paying
for someone else to recycle? I don’t take the newspaper, recyle my magazines
to the gym or doctors’ offices, dont’ drink soda or juice. I don’t buy cannd
fruit or vegetables, and I don’t buy milk in plastic containers. So… I had
to request a larger trash can to accomodate trash. We should have a choice in
who we use for service. The larger trash can will cost $2.12 more a month.
I’m beginning to see the wisdom of my son discontinuing his service and
taking it to the landfill himself twice a month - for a $10 fee.

FreeWill on Fri, 10/05/2012 - 10:56am

The city is really pulling the wool over our eyes on this one. We now have a
bunch of trash sitting there for a week at a time and now I need to police my
recycle bin to make sure no passers by put any trash on their or I will be up
to my eyes in recyclables like I am now! They don’t even accept milk cartons,
scrap metal, or glass!!!!! I will be forced to cut service and bring it out
to the refuse station myself if no action is taken.

Sumtingwong on Fri, 10/05/2012 - 11:08am

Idea, have you son take your trash to the dump when he takes his, probably
still would get by for $10.

Title: better idea

have sumtingwong pick up ypour trash for you

When I moved here I was impressed with the twice weekly garbage pickup so
that we wouldn’t generate foul odors by having trash sit around. I was
however, disappointed with the recycling efforts which were non-existent.
Slowly we have evolved into a more “green” area but not nearly enough to
limit trash pickup to once a week. I moved here from VT where we nearly
recycled everything. But in the meantime, I would appreciate a credit on my
current bill.

Here is a chance for the Herald to help out the community and investigate how
much money the city will be making by dropping trash pickup to only once a
week and finding out where that money is spent.

Sumtingwong on Sun, 10/07/2012 - 6:49pm

LMwhatever off. The Herals investigating anything, or following up on a
 story?

Title: Recycle

I would like to recycle but I’m to stupid to figure out what goes into the
blue bin.

HrH_QoD on Tue, 10/09/2012 - 11:49pm
Title: hmmm...

thanks Incadove93… I didn’t think about this before I read your post…a
little annoying that we are only getting half of the service we once got…

FreeWill on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 10:24am

and stand next to my recycle can as they take it. I will be late for work to
make sure these employees that I pay for do the job I pay them do do because
I have no other means to recycle besides the garbage can. My garbage is
already full again…

Sumtingwong on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 11:22am

It appears you generating too much garbage. You can recycle your beer cans,
and be paid for them.

FreeWill on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 12:28pm

with all the assumptions and grand ideas. FYI i have been collecting
recyclables for months in preparations for one and one. Mostly paper from
junk mail with the occasional laundry soap container, box, or juice bottle,
etc. Would it be impossible for the collector remove the contaminants from
the bin and put them in the green bin right next to it? I mean if they are
going to look in and make up a list, could they have just removed the
contaminants and took the rest? Do I get a pro rate now that they did not
collect? Why do I do business with these crooks again? Monopoly

Sumtingwong on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 7:33pm

And you can’t read or follow directions, and quit putting the wrong things,
in the right container?

FreeWill on Thu, 10/11/2012 - 9:07am
Title: thats correct

i can read, but it took me a week to get that follow directions thing sorted
out and quit putting the wrong things in the right container. in my defense a
high school diploma was not required at refuse service enrollment. Although
there are some requirements to be employed as a recycle/trash collector.
Whose salary city residents/I help afford…gee could they have helped me out
a little and took the good recyclables? i guess they did by educating me on
which items belong and which do not. i am just glad they actually are taking
it now
