Dever to High Court on SB 1070

Although some are tired of hearing about Arizona’s border problems, others are not.

That’s how Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever sees the issue, which not only impacts Arizona but also far beyond the state.

The federal government’s attack on Arizona’s Senate Bill 1070 is just an example of those in Washington, D.C., who are unaware of the enormous problem illegal immigrants and drug cartels are causing throughout the nation, Dever said.

We are being handcuffed by the folks in Washington, D.C.,” This is an ongoing problem that will remain to support the agenda of the left. The only way to stop it is by voting out the left out of all their positions in the next election. If we don’t give the conservatives a chance to run the government then you can contiue to watch the demise of this nation.

Title: Feds inaction

Why has the Federal inaction on the illegal issue just become a real issue with the states the past three years?  The estimated 12 million did not all come over the past three years.  This security issue should have been most certainly  addressed in 2001 after 911.  Were was the outcry against the Feds eleven years ago?  Finger pointing to the right or left seems futile as both sides have let us down.

Huachuca Henry on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 2:31pm

You are a county Sherrif Mr. Dever. Please do your job and stop grandstanding and politicing on our dime. This is not a county issue. It’s between the state and the federal government and they waste plenty time on the issue.

Are you kidding?  A lot of us have been hollering since before 9/11 and we knew where to find others of like mind.  Of course we hollered even louder after 9/11.  Homeland Security?  What a total joke when they won’t take on the most basic of missions, at least not honestly.  Any of us with half a brain knew the "virtual" electronic fence (SBI) was never intended to work.

Did you ever hear of Lou Dobbs when he was on CNN?  There are and have been multiple web groups as well.  We’re sick of the lobbyists for CROOKED employers and illegal aliens being able to buy away our security and livlihoods.  We’ve been here all along and we’re not going away…..

Title: And the right

Too bad Walt is so fixated on the left.  Just how many employers have been  penalized?  Hardly any, at least here in Arizona.  (See the local Sierra Vista drywall case.) The reason? Both parties, for their own reasons, want the illegal immigration to occur.  Smoke and mirrors on all sides.  A good number of the responders on this thread see this.  Only the ideologically fixated do not.  (And even those Biblical literalists like Walt appear to be ignorant of what the Old Testament says about "the sojourners among us.")

Remote Killer on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 10:23pm

Having lived in Sierra Vista for a while now I must say that the amount of BP agents has increased dramatically. I read about numerous drug and illegal alien busts daily. Dever doing this publicity stunt is just sad. He is a county sheriff! Stay out of the big boys room and handle the crime in Cochise County.

Title: First things

Why does this nation, and any nation, have a border? That question should be the starting point of any discussion about border security.

People on both sides of the immigration issue are like people on both sides of a national border. Their conflicting opinions are formed by different life experiences. No meaningful resolution to border issues can be achieved unless people on both sides try to put themselves in the place of their opponents.

Instead of accusing our opponent of ignorance, we should first be willing to accept that he may have formed his opinion by the same process that formed ours: experience and thoughtful examination of the facts.

Title: Ummmmm.......

…..are you SERIOUSLY asking why we have borders? Where you live, if you "own" your home, do you not have property lines? Or can I, and everyone else,  just come over and "make ourselves at home" at your home?

Title: Uh no

Good grief myron, you are seriously going to attempt to contort that passage that much? Ok Myron, one of those passages is talking about Jubilee you suggesting that we forgive all debt every 7 years? Or are you just saying that the US is Israel somehow ? Context Myron , context. Don’t try to use the Bible for this, you really don’t want to get into it.

Youre paying the same attention to it as you paid the bios you read where you had Peter Schiff (not irwin) in prison for Tax evasion, forgot other peoples degrees, work places and other accomplishments.

Myron Jaworsky on Sat, 04/28/2012 - 9:34am

You’re right about my mixing-up Irwin and Peter Schiff:  Irwin is Peter’s father, and indeed, it’s Irwin who is doing prison time. Thank you for the correction.

I could say more, and would have said more, but Phil Vega cut the thread.  Who can blame him?  Many more readers are interested in traffic accidents on that stretch of SR-90 than in what you and I have to say, especially since the thread was nearly impossible to follow.

Oh well.

Best wishes until next time.

Walt on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 1:01pm

"the sojourners among us." Myron is right in that the Old Testament speaks of this. But it was speaking to Jews in a Jewish nation. America does not prohibit sojourners to this nation as long as it is done legally. Do you object to that, Myron? "Too bad Walt is so fixated on the left." And the left is the problem, Myron. They are the ones suing Arizona for trying to enforce the borders to stop the illegal crossings. The liberal’s are ruining the country with their anything goes mentality and fighting everything that is right. Who’s fault is it that we have people in both parties doing as they please and not as their constituants want? It is the voters fault for allowing that trash to represent them. However, this is falling on deaf ears isn’t it Myron?
