Census: Bisbee friendliest city in state for gay couples
PHOENIX — So what’s the friendliest place in Arizona for gay couples?
If figures from the Census Bureau are to be believed, it’s Bisbee.
An analysis of the annual count by researchers at The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law found that, on a proportional basis, the tiny city in southeast Arizona had more gay couples living together than anywhere else in the state. The ratio was 20.9 for every 1,000 households.
That compares with a statewide average of 8.8.

There are probably more of us in Bisbee than you think. Just not in Old Bisbee. And, I’m proud to fly my conservative bumper sticker every time I drive up the canyon. But, just so you know, I’m watching out for the discrimination I know you’ll heap on me if you put me together with my car. That goes both ways, sweetheart.
Bisbee has moved on from being the friendliest for hippies in the 1970s to being friendliest for gay couples in the 2010s. I don’t fit the bill there so it’s a good thing I moved away when I did.
