Sierra Vista is slower to recover
City, county weren’t hit as hard as the state, rest of the nation

Fort Huachuca — In many ways, Cochise County and Sierra Vista faired better than the state and nation during the recent economic recession, which is likely part of the reason why the local economy has yet to show the same signs of recovery that are surfacing nationally.

I would have really appreciated the irony if the Herald had run Dr Carreira’s comments, the observations of the Arizona Commerce Authority and “Brewer Signs Legislation to Balance Budget” in parallel columns. On one hand we have anyone who actually knows anything telling the state government what is wrong with the economy and what has to happen. And, on the other hand, we have thoroughly uneducated Brewer and her handlers saying, “well that’s all very interesting, but we’re going to do this instead because it fits our fantasy.” I feel like I am living in the film “Idiocracy.”
"So while the national economic recovery appears to be moving along fairly well, it still faces some threats to recovery with rising gas prices being the most immediate, Carreira said. The state and local economic outlook may take a little longer to turn the corner." Recovery moving along?!?!? What "recovery" is he talking about? The one where we only loose 380,000 jobs a month? The one where housing starts are abysmal?
"continue to trend slightly downward" I wouldn’t call a 17.8 drop from last years horrible numbers "slightly downward".
Let me guess its all the fault of "supply side economics" again. LOL
Sierra Vista fared better, not "faired" Many people don’t read all the way down to the end so you should at least give them the correctly spelled words in the first paragraph.
As usual, another liberal who carefully couch’s his words with descriptions such as the "debate" (speaking about the invasion by illegals) and the "perecption" (of Mexican violence at the border), instead of just stating that these are real causes of financial drain to the state. They just can’t bring themselves to speak the truth, for fear of being chastised by their liberal cohorts.
Doesn’t Carreira follow the news? "the perception of the drug war in Mexico spilling into Arizona" Maybe he should talk to Dever, the Krenz family, or the family of the BP agent that was gunned down.
