Staffers shocked at co-worker's death

SIERRA VISTA — Gone is Gabe Zimmerman, shot and killed Saturday morning at a "Congress on Your Corner" event in Tucson that he arranged for Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Wounded in the shooting was the Arizona Congressional District 8 three-term congresswoman. Also hurt were her district director, Ron Barber, and Pam Simon, a staffer known for her work with veterans.
Giffords’ press secretary, C.J. Karamargin, said the staff is in shock.

So sad. So senseless. I know some of those who are injured and dead and am
still in shock. I feel awful for all affected, but maybe most for the child
who died, and her family. Now the Westbro folks in Kansas say God sent the
shooter, they’re glad for the deaths, and they will be here to picket the
funerals. Again, I want free speech. But I also want decency. People need to
understand the consequences of their vitriolic words. I so fear that if these
people show up, there could be confrontations and more violence. Violence is
never the answer. Peace.
