Complicated plot for family works itself out, with state selling cemetery land after a century
BISBEE — The 11 descendant families of pioneer John Wells have great cause to celebrate. The deed to the family’s cemetery is finally in their hands after 100 years spent trying to acquire it.
Sheila Cottrell was the only bidder Tuesday morning on the county courthouse steps for the 6.5 acres of barren desert scrub. The land bears the graves of about 80 family members.
