FORT HUACHUCA — A proposed specialized high school on the post lacks the backing of the fort’s leadership.
While the need for a new middle school is supported, “Fort Huachuca does not support the proposal to build a specialized high school on Fort Huachuca at this time,” according to a letter signed by Garrison Commander Col. Timothy Faulkner.

Have you ever thought of how many assistant superintendents, principals, and
assistant principals work under the superintendent of Chicago? I am neither
the city manager’s nor Agenbroad’s buddy, but do you realize that there are
superintendents in smaller school districts in Cochise County who make more
than $65,000 annually and have less than 500 students. What is your point? We
are talking about professional administrators, not babysitters. Is it hard to
understand that assistant principals make more than teachers, principals make
more than assistant principals, and district leaders make more than school
administrators? The issue is supply and demand. You get what you pay for,
unless of course you live in Bell, CA. Feel free to apply for the city
manager’s job; be prepared to produce a resume and references. You seem to
believe you can do any job in this county better than the current office
holder regardless of your education, skills, and experience.
You’re missing the point, I’d be saying the same for Chicago. In one breath
the city and school district is saying how broke they are. Cutting all these
programs and jobs. But they are able to find the money to pay these high
salaries. Maybe you’ve missed me saying this in the past. So I’ll repeat it.
If this was better times and we had the money…fine. This is hard times and
the city/schools cry broke. I believe you made the comment along the lines of
you get what you pay for. The teachers have more contact with the children
then Mr A. So in my eyes their job is more valuable. They are the ones who
are actually teaching and educating the children. So shouldn’t their salaries
reflect that idea. And yet it doesn’t. Does this make any sense to you? We
pay very well for a super. We want the best. Yet we pay almost nothing to
attract and keep qualified teachers. Unless Mr. A is teaching every class. We
are spending money on the wrong people. And the same for the city.
I have a comment to say and I’m sure many will disagree with me. The school
board is a non pay position, the city council is $9000 a year, and the mayor
$12000 a year.We are a pretty small city. And because of funding we are
cutting hours at the library. Teachers getting laid off, pay freezes. Funding
for so many things just isn’t there. Yet, as we read the CM, makes a very
nice salary $135,000 and a number of perks. And Mr. A makes a very nice
salary. I believe he makes about $115,000 a year. And how many students are
in SVUSD, approx. 6,000. The super for Chicago is definitely overpaid. He
makes $300,000 a year. But he has over 417,000 students.I mentioned before
math is not one of my strong points. But I believe Mr A makes more than 2,000
per student than the super for Chicago. People say those are the going rates.
But we have to work with the funds that we have for our city. How can the
city say how broke it is. And cut jobs but pay people outragous amounts. We
need to pay focus.
You are right, something is needed and that is the truth. I know both of the
attendance clerks who are responsible for the four grades. It is clear that
you don’t know what you are talking about when you say there are four when
there are only two. Why should anyone put any stock in what you have to say
when your first comment suggests that you haven’t even been in the
attendance office? If you see more than one person, that doesn’t mean that
everyone one of them is an attendance clerk. Do you have any idea what the
job description is for attendance clerks? Do you know anything about the
federal or state regulations regarding attendance, curriculum, discipline or
special needs students? Can you name another high school in the county with
more students per administrator than Buena has? If you think you can it shows
you don’t know what you are talking about.
First, thanks to the Herald for including links to documents mentioned in the
newspaper article. Seems to be an innovative way to “see for ourselves” the
dialog between the two parties. Second, thanks to Superintendent Agenbroad
for throwing the “Baloney Flag” when it comes to the decision-making process
of the Fort Huachuaca Accommodation School Board. Building a new high school
just because “if we don’t spend the money we will lose it” mentality runs
rampant on the post, even in these economic times. Most military “leaders”
are trained from a young age that when the end of the fiscal year rolls
around that they have to find ways to spend any remaining money or “we won’t
get as much next year.” Useless projects and material pile up because they
want to spend the money rather than being good stewards of our tax money.
Please have Frueauff explain in detail what “exploratory matter” means? Is
that a play on words or what? I am not in favor of this idea no matter what
exploratory means. It is okay for military family students living on FH to
leave the post and come into town. It is not okay to let civilian family
students who are not military connected have free access to mill around FH.
And, they will mill around because high school kids drive cars. When a
military family student damages military property, the military member of
that student is given a DR that is reflected on the military member’s career
record. However, when a civilian family student does damage to military
property there is no civilian family member career penality. I ask, Why does
the military leadership need a reason to say “No”? I agree with the military
leadership that this mix and match on FH is a bad idea for many unforseeable
reasons.
And likewise, military children drive off post and can do damage to property
in the city. Plus they can mill around the city of Sierra Vista. Heck, there
is a PX and commisary, plus movie on post. Why should they use any thing that
civilians use. Do you see how silly your statement sounded. You also realize
that the ONLY bowling alley in this area is on post along with a riding
stable. That is the problem….military against civilian. We are all in the
same area. One group of people is no better than the next. We all put our
pants on the same way. If we are here legally that is all that matters.
We may all put our pants on the same way, but we are not all trained to go to
war. Did you go to war to make and/or keep this nation free? A military fort
is built for men and women who have the guts to defend us. This group of
people is better in that respect. We do treat them differently in Sierra
Vista by giving them special discounts, etc. These men and women who fight
for our country to keep it free do not need the additional stress should
their child get into a confrontation with a civilian child. Don’t you see the
difference? The military member suffers; the civilian member does not.
Anyway, don’t be so angry, this is not military against civilians. You
probably aren’t even involved one way or another. And, you certainly do not
sound as though you are into preserving the original concept of our military
forces. That is, to keep this nation free; it is not to be bogged down by
controlling and patroling civilians. Please don’t be angry. We have enough
anger in this country.
Now, why would you have to continue to say so many silly statements. For your
information I serverd in the military. The miltary member suffers more then
the civilian. My ex-husband is a firefighter and when we were married I never
knew if he was coming home. He has fallen threw roofs, been called for OD
victims that turn violent, shot at, been thrown 40 feet when a car exploded.
His coworkers jumped from a 3rd floor because of a backdraft. Your attitude
makes it sound like the ONLY children in this area that get into trouble are
civilian children. Not to long ago didn’t 2 or 3 military children set
something on fire in a playground. True the military keeps the country safe.
Along with border patrol. And the fire department, law enforcement, medics,
medical plus numerous others keep us safe on the home front. I respect the
military but there are so many other professions that contribute just as
much. They all deal with extreme stress. They miss holidays with loved ones
too.
Why does anyone believe Ft. Huachuca needs a high school? Buena should be
sufficient to handle all the military high school aged children.
