TUCSON — Nineteen-year-old Erika Toledo Ruiz shares the couch with her younger sister Gloria. They’re watching cartoons on a flat-screen TV while their dad rests after his midnight shift at McDonald’s.
It’s mid-afternoon, and Erika still has to pick up her mom from her job at a diner in Tucson.
Erika wants to work in the restaurant business as well. She graduated from Pueblo High School in Tucson last year and is saving money to enter the culinary arts program at Pima Community College.

In a party-line vote yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the
Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act. The Development,
Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act; provides path to citizenship for
illegal aliens who came to the country as kids. The U.S. Senate may very well
filibuster the DREAM Act.
The way this girl is acting by appearing in this story with photo and all, is
akin to a murderer taunting police to catch them. She knows that her family
and her are here illegally, but has the nerve to call herself “Half
American”. She IS a criminal as is her family. It is sickening that she can
go around flaunting her illegal status.
Wow, I can not believe that she is flaunting! It makes me sick. And why would
the Herald give this coverage? I think that the reporter who wrote this
should be questioned and if he/she refuses to answer questions throw them in
jail for harboring a criminal.
Well it says it was originally written by “Arizona-Sonora News Service”,
however, I actually agree with them running the story because it shows the
importance of elections. This kind of entitlement mentality has lead us to
the point where we are. The US’s unfunded liabilities have reached $111.022T.
As that is more than all the money in the world, in very short order the
nation is going to have to renege on many of its promises. Adding more
promises on top of isn’t going to help no matter who gets all the votes
from it. Funny how those who aren’t citizens can protest for citizenship
and college giveaways and its ok, but you had better not let those who are
citizens protest to exercise their right for a redress, oh no that’s racist.
As for being called a “cockroach” why is that even in the story? You get
called much worse than that here from the “tolerant” & “diverse” left , so
what. Try committing a crime then protesting about it in Mexico and see what
you get called.
Another feel good story about folks that break the law. Go home and do it the
right way.
I wonder who’s identity she is using? I am pretty sure it’s not the one she
was born with, in which case she should be thrown in jail for fraud. I don’t
care if her parents bought the identity several years ago, I am sure she
knows by now that it is not hers. Oh and throw the parents in jail for
stealing it in the first place and probly there’s too. While your at it go
after her parents employers for knowling hiring or retaining her parents ass
workers because they definitly know now that they have illegals on the
payroll.
so all the folks in the us legally that broke the laws of the u.s will be
forgiven also under this new law when does it stop. lets just toss out the
law’s of the u.s. and forgive every law breaker so if something were to
happen to this girl they should say oh well. i think not so she should look
at it this way if you want the u.s laws to protect you don’t,t break them and
ask us to look the other way get it.
Absolute proof that continually rewarding lawlessness only guarantees ever
more lawlessness.
I’ve got to wonder whose Social Security number she’s using. Identity theft
and Social Security fraud are felonies and I think you could properly charge
almost anyone here illegally with one or the other making them ineligible for
any reward for their lawlessness. I hope the only ID theft victims are
members of facilitating churches.
We’ve already paid taxes through the nose supporting this girl and her
family. As well as millions more just like them–lawbreakers every one.
Enough is enough!
This is also an indictment of those churches that encourage and otherwise
facilitate disobedience to our laws. I doubt they would want me or anyone
else breaking their church laws by partaking of those rites reserved for
their good upstanding members but I have to admit I’ve considered doing so.
maybe she should go back and start a resturant in mexico …give me a break
boo hoo why should i feel sad for you when there are people in the country
legally that are sick, or need a job or a myriad of other things. like steve
says come back legal and all is well if not get readt to be deported. look
her up on facebook Erika Jazmin Toledo Ruiz.
Sadly, she’s been caught up in her parent’s act of crime, that being they
entered the country illegally and brought her with them. Time to stop the
family legacy of being law breakers and go back across the border. It’s my
understanding that Mexico has some excellent universities. She knows she’s
breaking the law… Fix it.
