HUACHUCA CITY — In its first statement as a governing body on the issue, the Huachuca City Town Council voted down a resolution supporting the formation of the Upper San Pedro Water District at Thursday’s regular meeting.

After the meeting, Sierra Vista Mayor Bob Strain, at whose urging the council considered the resolution, expressed his disappointment.

Title: About Time

It’s about time that someone in authority came to their senses! If the Water
Board can’t tax or regulate, then it is worthless. If it can, then it is just
one more level of government to increase our taxes. More regulation will not
save Ft. Huachuca, It will make it less attractive to the military and will
get it closed. Strain is only trying to get himself a well paying, easy job
on the backs of the taxpayers. More government is NEVER the answer, no matter
what the question is. Vote NO on the Water Board!

At one of the “informational” meetings, a resident of the proposed district
voiced concern that all the elected board members would be from Sierra Vista
because they have the most population. All other residents would be at the
mercy of whatever SV wanted, which appeared to be to grow and grow and grow.
Growth results in ever increasing water use. Glad to see the Huachuca City
folks just say NO.

thats funny, they disagree with Strain so he claims tey didnt taker an
objective look. can’t he just retire peacfully and drop off the radar? or is
he going to be Cllintonesquq, always seeking publicity.

Bob Strain is ignoring a few things. 1, the public meetings set by the
organizing board aren’t to educate the public about the proposed district,
they’re to educate the organizing board about what talking points work best
at influencing people to vote for the district. 2, outside the official
meetings, there are lots of sources of info about the proposed district; good
info is all over the internet, from many sources. 3, at the present rate of
water usage, there are hundreds or thousands of years of water left in the
Upper San Pedro Basin. Strain should be embarrassed at being caught trying to
push the organizing board’s talking points at people who know the facts
better than he does. The citizens who spoke out against the district should
be proud.

Title: Smarter

They are smarter in HC than most give them credit for. Of course Strain
want’s the water board, as he wants to be on the board.

Yes, Bob is looking for his next “soft landing” as CEO/EO of the new water
district at $100,000 a year (that’s what they originally revealed at these
forums: 3 employees @$100,000 each (yes each) plus another $100,000 for
office space, supplies, etc. coming to $400,000 as their “start up” figure.
That was radically modified in their final version of the
organizational/financial plan, so they listened anyway. But they spent over
$70,000 on these forums which were more interesting for what people asked
than what was answered. Bob Strain is usually a suave, considerate man
(that’s my experience anyway) so for him to make such a critical statement
(“I’m not here to criticize…” but these guys don’t know what they are
doing…) seems out of character for him. And ultimately, as someone already
pointed out, those forums were not the only (or even the best) source of
information on the District. I’ve read their plans (in the SV library) and
they were much more revealing.

Exactly, Bob Strain is out of a job when the elect a new Mayor, so he’s
running for this Water Board. You can say that it’s a volunteer position,
however there’s always money in politics, i.e. trips to Washington or perhaps
to the Colorado River to look as some CAP water.

Vote NO on the Water board.

Just in case it passes Vote FOR Inga McCord, and not for Strain.

Good for HC. I’m sure glad I don’t live in SV.
