A jury took one hour Thursday to determine St. David rancher Rex John Kartchner was not guilty on all counts of animal cruelty charges after a three-day trial in Cochise County Superior Court, Division 2.
Kartchner was charged with subjecting the animals to cruel neglect or abandonment resulting in serious physical injury from Oct. 1, 2008, to March 20, 2009.

I wonder if perhaps the reason the “neighbors” were so upset was because he
put the horses down himself instead of calling the vet. Some people think
that would be the inhumane part about this. Some people think the “humane”
thing to do is use a chemical mixture to “put them to sleep”. One question I
would like answered is over the month time, where the horses checked on by
the owner or worker of the owner? Where the horses out there to pasture and
live out the remainder of their lives?
This sounds like a case of jumping to conclusions. I had a dog once that
lived to the age of 17. In his last few months eating became a big chore to
him and more often than not even if he were to eat he would get sick. I am
sure if some nosey person were to have seen him in his last few days they
would have assumed some kind of animal cruelty going on as well If someone
would have just asked and got the whole story in this case we wouldn’t have
had to waste the courts time.
It seems all too often when someone is accused of animal abuse they’re guilty
until proven innocent.
