Activists say SB 1070 could boost Latino vote turnout
PHOENIX — Amid stacks of voter-registration pamphlets and reminder mailers, three pairs of volunteers hunch over tables in Mi Familia Vota’s Arizona headquarters, assembling voter-information packets and tallying registration numbers.
The nonpartisan activist group has already registered 14,000 Latinos since June for Arizona’s Permanent Early Voting List and expects to register about 11,000 more by October, according to state director Francisco Heredia.

I’m sure like anyone else, Latinos will vote with their perceived self
interest in mind. Obviously SB 1070 is a sore point that threatens a way of
life with them, elsewise why all the opposition against what the majority
sees as a logical procedure.
I hope Latinos turn out in huge numbers to vote. I hope they vote as American
Citizens, not expatriates. I hope they vote with the US Constitution
uppermost in their mind. I hope they vote to protect this nation they have
immigrated to. I hope they wave the flag of the country they have chosen to
live in, not the flag of the country they have left. I hope they vote for a
stronger border. I hope they vote knowing that each illegal that gets hired
means the potential loss of a job held by someone of legal status. I hope
they drive around their communities and look at ‘what is’ and think of what
‘it could be’. I hope they go out after dark and survey their neighborhoods
for the aimless gangs and ask ‘how is this possible? I hope they vote with
with legal identification. I hope they vote with the knowledge that there is
a difference between immigration and invasion. I hope they vote…
