Travelers prepare for one last hurrah

740,000 Arizonans are expected to hit the road this weekend

PHOENIX — The road trip has long been an American tradition, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, of the more than 740,000 Arizonans traveling 50 or more miles from home this weekend, more than 90 percent will do so by way of motor vehicle.

Of all modes of travel, road trips have experienced the biggest recovery this summer, according to AAA. More than 1.9 million Arizonans have or will embark on a road trip this summer, an increase of 13.3 percent compared to last year:
