PHOENIX — Arizona National Guard soldiers have arrived at the border.

The first 33 are being assigned surveillance work, according to Lt. Valentine Castillo. Plans are to continue training a new batch and deploying them every week until there are 532 soldiers stationed in the area, a goal the Guard hopes to achieve by Oct. 1.

Mario Escalante of Customs and Border Patrol said the soldiers will be doing more than simply looking for people trying to enter the country illegally.

I guess she forgot “Operation Jumpstart” back in 2006-2008. Now The issue has
pushed Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security, into something
of a corner. As governor of Arizona, she demanded that Guard troops be put on
the border. But since joining the Obama administration, she has remained
noncommittal about the idea, saying as recently as a month ago that other
efforts by Mr. Obama had made the border “as secure now as it has ever
 been.”

The exception being the fact that these guardsmen will not be able to
apprehend ANY illegal immigrants & they are limited on how much force they
can use to defend themselves if necessary. Obama is basically castrating the
authority of a military unit. Paltry would be accurate that the Federal
governments of the U.S. & Mexico have failed its citizens! The only feasible
option i see is to send in hired mercenaries to wipe out all the drug cartel
factions with one thunderous attack. Have the UAV drone’s determine their
exact locations & go for their headshots with a painted laser guided missile
& then wash up the left overs toot sweet with the commandos! …Stop the
insanity now Janet, come November you will NOT have any backers left in
office starting with Gabby & Raul who only like the orders from the slothful
Nancy Pelosi & John McCain is suffering from being old & senile! We need to
weed out the thistle!

Can we impeach because of stupidity? Man, do I wish we could…….Obama is
terrible and Napolitano is a joke. I cannot wait till November to start
taking some Government control away.

33? Are you serious? 33 isn’t even a full platoon of soldiers. Why is it
taking so long to get the soldiers here? We can deploy hundreds or thousands
in a few days notice but we get 33 after 2 months of waiting from Obama. This
story is a crock and Howard Fischer should be ashamed of his self. He is a
poor reporter because 33 is a joke. I think Brewer should take the gloves off
and call up the Arizona National Guard and put them on the border. What
happened to the governor being in charge of their own state guard forces? 33
is an insult to the state of Arizona and Obama is rubbing it in our face.

“What happened to the governor being in charge of their own state guard
 forces?”

Nothing. If Brewer really believed this were some sort of “emergency” or
“crisis”, she could call up the Guard.

But she didn’t.

There’s a clue there. But I’m sure it will, as usual, elude you.

Title: Clarify...

I don’t disagree with you that only having 33 ready after 2 months is
outrageous. However one thing that does need to be considered is that the
thousands of troops that we have ready to deploy within a few days (some
within hours) are active duty troops. Calling up reservists and National
Guard does take a lot more time, especially when you throw in some training.
Many reservists and NG will fight the system as much as they can not to
activate, you throw in time for deployment orders, setting up logistics, and
training them and you can start to see why it does take much longer to deploy
them. Not an excuse by any means, but it is reality. I am curious as to what
soldiers they will be sending to do the job. Are we getting combat troops or
the support elements? I’m not convinced putting a cook out there with his
M-16 is going to accomplish very much.

If Napolitano says so we should believe.
