Neighbor’s photos prompt rescue of three starving horses
PALOMINAS — Three starving horses were picked up by state livestock officers Friday and moved to a location where they are receiving care.
It was considered an emergency by the Arizona Department of Agriculture, so the state lifted a work furlough on Friday to let two livestock officers — one from Nogales and one from Tucson — seize the animals.

What a great neighbor! We should all be good neighbors and use the eyes and
ears that God gave us to lessen the suffering of animals/children in our own
neighborhoods.
I applaud a concerned neighbor for making the effort to save the neglected
horses. I wonder though if people would make the same effort if it a child?
Many children are abused and neglected. People don’t want to get “involved”
for fear they may be called to testify. Your call is anonymous and you don’t
have to testify. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks so much to Ms. Dickinson. I agree with her that laws need to be
changed to get abused animals out of dangerous situations more quickly. I
hope the abuser goes to prison.
How could anyone be so cruel for to allow these beautiful animals to starve
like this? Thank goodness for the alert neighbor who took action.
I am so happy these horses are going to get the care they need and deserve. I
have rescued horses myself and it is amazing the love you get in return from
theses animals when you take the time to care for them properly.
Day after day, I had the nauseating privilege of watching these majestic
animals suffer from the neglect of a person (I can’t even use the word man,
for a “man” doesn’t commit acts such as these, not once, but several times)
who couldn’t have cared less about the animals beyond them being “his”. I
wasn’t home when the state came to get the horses but I applaud all the work
and time that went into getting these animals away from their abusers. It was
an effort on several personal and state/county governmental levels. Never
again will I accuse a government worker of not having feelings. There were
several broken hearts when it came to these horses, on ALL levels.
Thank you for sharing the atrocity with our community. We all need to be on
the lookout for abuse of all kinds. Thanks again.
