Immigration, drugs and life in Paradise
Things have changed through the years in the once-pristine Chiricahua region.

PARADISE — Here on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains, about 50 miles north of Mexico, smoke rose lazily from the Horseshoe Fire in June.
Chiricahua residents blamed the fire on illegal immigrants. The U.S. Forest Service hasn’t found a culprit.
But the fire is only another cause for locals’ concern over intruders into their wooded Paradise — or Portal or Whitetail Canyon.

Illegal Invaders certainly have not been kind to our land. I find it
difficult why so many people support them. If they would only look and read
what is going on as I have I believe they would see things differently.
I have long said I don’t fear the migrants who cross our land, and that what
we need is a legal way for them to come, work, and return home. Had this been
done years ago, the country’s situation wouldn’t be so dire today.
Additionally, if marijuana were legalized and taxed, the government would
have an increase in taxes, there would be more employment, and the danger on
the border would decrease. It’s time to look at what we need to do, and quit
operating on wild emotions and anger. A 2,000 mile wall won’t stop people
from coming illegally. But an ability to enter legally would cut illegal
immigration to a trickle.
I agree, Auntie Em.
