PHOENIX — A federal judge is holding hearings on a parade of legal challenges to Arizona’s immigration enforcement law. But resolving the seven cases filed so far could keep the court busy for years.
Two of the cases go before U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton today. Lawyers in separate cases filed by the federal government and by the American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups are seeking an order to keep the law from taking effect. Attorneys for Gov. Jan Brewer want Bolton to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the advocacy groups.

IM4TRUTH, are you insane? If this law is overthrown by the Federal Judge, it
will give carte blanche for all those thugs like “El Chapo” Guzman to send
hundreds of thugs across our border to kill more innocent people like Mr.
Krentz. Would you prefer that Guzman murder your family that you love dearly?
I certainly would not, and there would be no way for the Border Patrol,ICE,
Deputies & DPS able to prevent the onslaught of an average of 2,000+ folks
muder each & every 6 months because we could not draw a solid line in the
desert to say stay on your side & keep your thugs away from our loved ones. I
would not wish that kind of flood gates opened up on any family in AZ. Get
real IM4TRUTH, we do not have enough bodies to protect us if this law is
disallowed to happen!
Let me see if I understand Ran Talbott and Im4Truth: It’s unconstitutional to
ask a person being questioned in connection of a crime for proof of legal
status, but quite ok that legal immigrants “must carry proof of legal
residency at all times” per the “Guide for New Immigrants” page 8 published
by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. Department of
Education.
“Let me see if I understand Ran Talbott”
Obviously not: you didn’t read the documents.
I recommend the preliminary injunction request: it’s the best explanation of
the issues for non-lawyers.
So why did the Obama regime choose this State and this time? Why not the
other States, Counties and Muicipalities who have had similar laws on the
book foe a while now. It’s an election year, that’s why. The current regime
is trying to garner votes so that it can continue it’s shipwreck. It’s a sad
state of affairs when a free people, theoretically governed by themselves
have to fight over such a basic duty of government. Will Arnold go to this
much effort to defend California’s illegal alien statute? No,they don’t
enforce it anyway. Or Missouri? Or Virgiia, New Hampshire and all the rest?
We should reword the first part of the 10th Ammendment to read, ‘The powers
not delegated to the United States or which the United States fail to
uphold,’. I think Jefferson was right. Every generation should overhaul the
government from stem to stern. A complete housecleaning and reset. We trusted
government to look out for us, let us raise a family, prosper as we saw fit.
That worked out well, huh.
“Why not the other States, Counties and Muicipalities who have had similar
laws on the book foe a while now”
Because those other laws aren’t unconstitutional. Oranges and golf balls are
superficially “similar”: both are “rough-surfaced spheroids”. But I would
advise against drinking anything that comes out when you run a golf ball
through a juicer.
The Feds’ filing are available at:
http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2010/July/10-opa-776.html
The differences between SB1070 and other states’ laws are addressed there.
Similar? How similar? Your fact check ain’t making it
CA’s illegal immigration laws were passed in the 1990s by proposition and
immediately gutted in federal court. The state quickly settled with the feds
and agreed not to enforce them.
Jefferson was an intellectual, an agnostic, elitist and an extreme liberal in
his day.He would think the idea of a birth rights bestowing entitlements as
utterly revolting. The founding fathers opposed England’s control of
immigration, never mentioned its restriction anywhere that I know of. Remind
me again what you have in common with him or why “real conservatives” are
always quoting him?LOL
The only reason Brewer signed SB1070 was because it is an election year. She
did nothing with the hiring law and in fact was floating the idea of watering
it down last year. Obama is catching flack for fighting SB1070 from
democrats. It so popular you keep telling us, right?
Nebraska is also being charged. I think it is a small town called Freemont.
One of there possible laws being challenged is employers check to see if
legal. The other is renting to only legals. Its a shame that someone works
hard to have income property. And an illegal has all the rights and the
property owner none. My Mom sold income property after 52 years. It just
wasn’t worth the headaches any more. All these groups and churchs are coming
out now. Why don’t they educate these illegals on being law abiding people.
Why don’t they try to improve the illegals country instead of trying to
change our country. The president of Mexico can’t control his own country yet
he is going to tell the US what is wrong with our country. He needs to clean
up his own house first.
Translator? You are claiming this law in some attention seeking town in NE is
to protect the poor property owners from bad tenants? Illegals with special
rights that I assume citizen renters don’t have? Those dang churches!!! LOL
Got scapegoats? What does the government of Mexico got to do with it? Nothing
really. Marcie just felt like slapping that brush around. You need help
sister.
Hank, I feel sorry for you. Everyone is out to get these poor honest
hardworking illegals…..well in your small mind they are. Post after post
you are against anyone that is legally here and wants to succeed in life. You
have made comments about people who earned a pension, you stated rich
privledged white men, now it’s poor property owners. It seems that you think
only illegals work hard in this country. This really makes me wonder about
your background Hank. And yes those storefront churches are a problem. Also
if the government was doing their job in other countries people would not be
coming here illegally. They could make a living in their homeland. But of
course you see it as every illegal being owed things. No one has to accept
responsibility. It’s ok to break any law that suits your needs. Hank, you are
the one that needs help not me.
I have never seen such an accurate description. All the arguments in the
world cannot change the fact that ILLEGALS are ILLEGAL. If you don’t care
about breaking one law, you truly don’t care about breaking another. I am
sorry, but the element of population that doesn’t understand that, they don’t
have much respect for the law in the first place. You have to truly wonder
what these people do in real life…
