Once each quarter, members of the Sierra Vista Elks Lodge’s RV group, the Wandering Wapitis, travel to Tucson to prepare and serve a barbecue luncheon for patients at the Tucson Veterans Affairs hospital. On July 14, members of the group presented a certificate of appreciation to the bakery manager at Fry’s Foods in Sierra Vista for his continuing support of the event. Above, bakery Manager Joe Vaughn accepts the certificate from Elks Wandering Wapiti members Conny DeSpain and Roy Fisher.

Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America are having a bake sale and craft sale today in front of the Sierra Vista Walmart. The sale is a fundraiser for the Operation H.O.M.E.(Helping Our Military Everyday) Mission: Backpacks and school supplies for military children. Funds have fallen short and the group needs to supply 250 registered military children with backpacks and school supplies in only one week. A large donation box will be at the sale for those wishing to donate a backpack.
