Truck discovered after theft in inmate escape

A truck taken by an escaped inmate was found off of Highway 82 near the Santa Cruz/Pima county line.

SIERRA VISTA — A truck belonging to the town of Huachuca City that was stolen by a Department of Corrections inmate during his escape has been recovered, the town clerk said.
The Public Works Department pickup was found Tuesday afternoon off of Highway 82 near the county line between Santa Cruz and Pima counties by crews working for Tucson Electric Power, Ron Armstrong said.
The truck was abandoned just off a dirt road heading into Pima County. The escapee, Lonnie Smith, tried to hide the truck, authorities said.
