The effort to count the population that was living in Cochise County on April 1, 2010 has been under way for about three months.

Sixty-eight percent of county residents responded in the first phase of Census 2010, exceeding the 2000 response rates by more than 8 percent, according to Rita Bryan, 2010 Census coordinator for Cochise County.

The county has the highest rural county participation rate for the entire shared border with Mexico, with only Pima and San Diego counties (both considered to be urban counties) just slightly higher than our county.
