SIERRA VISTA —  Anger at the administration of Barack Obama and Congress still is a major issue for local tea party activists. They joined others across the country in a protest on Thursday, the income tax due date.

Thursday, nearly 400 people gathered at Veterans’ Memorial Park and heard speaker after speaker, including some candidates, attack what they see is the federal government’s destruction of the Constitution.

One sign seemed to consolidate the frustration with Congress with the words: “Go green, recycle Congress.”

I understand Jack Hayworth, who is running against Senator McCain, will be at
the Mona Bishop Room at the SV Library today from 1:30-3:00 PM. This is a
chance to hear and ask questions of a candidate for Senate.

Title: Hmmm

I think value added tax is as stupid as sin tax, luxury item tax, and
whatever other tax that is lame. This government reminds me of the tax
collector in Popeye. Tax anything and everything, right? The government says
“give me more” but spends it the way THEY see fit. If we the people actually
had a say in government spending, things would be much different. I know for
certain that we wouldn’t have a 14 TRILLION DOLLAR deficit.

Guess what “The One” is considering now? He thinks the “value added tax” has
great merit and will do much to reduce the deficit. So be ready to add 20% to
each item you purchase. This really gets me! The present administration and
party spends us out of existence and now they want us to pay for the bill
with the value added tax. They are criminals who are bent on destroying
America’s middle-class so that only two classes exist: the communist elite
and the poor slobs like us to pay their way. That is the CHANGE that we are
being transformed into. Don’t even think the finance reform, health care
reform, the student loan reform, or any other kind of reform, is to help the
people and protect the people, it’s just a power grab to expand the size of
the government. And if you object or protest to any of that, you will be
called a trouble maker, a terrorist that should be charged for sedition. The
Tea Party is not in “rebellion” but protesting against and voting out
non-productive politicians

Walt, Obama is trying to find a way to pay for the debt that you signed up
for under bush. People like you wanted to look for WMD in Iraq, which didn’t
exist, oh yeah the al qaeda connection didn’t exist either. If you and your
party were concerned, you would have paid for it, but you didn’t. You people
ran up the national debt. Change is paying for things, versus putting them on
credit like the right tards (including you) did. Where was the rightous tea
party when bush was, spending on debt? The entire movement is a farce. And
your 20% is from where again? Oh that is right you lie to express your false
 accusations.

Title: Yeah, right.

So, let’s see…

Obama says he’s not considering a VAT.

His Treasury secretary says they’re not considering a VAT.

All 6 of the Senators on Obama’s deficit reduction commission voted with the
EIGHTY-FIVE who passed McCain’s “VAT is the tool of Satan” resolution.

But you’re convinced that it’s imminent.

But not to worry: you’ll never have to pay it.

There’s no money allowed in the FEMA camps…

Where do you get your info from Ran Talbott?
 hxxp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/26/AR2009052602909.html

At a White House conference earlier this year on the government’s budget
problems, a roomful of tax experts pleaded with Treasury Secretary Timothy F.
Geithner to consider a VAT. A recent flurry of books and papers on the
subject is attracting genuine, if furtive, interest in Congress. And last
month, after wrestling with the White House over the massive deficits
projected under Obama’s policies, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee
declared that a VAT should be part of the debate. “There is a growing
awareness of the need for fundamental tax reform,” Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.)
said in an interview. “I think a VAT and a high-end income tax have got to be
on the table.”

Ran Talbott on Sun, 04/25/2010 - 6:39pm

I get it from people who know the difference between Obama and Conrad.

Hereford Steve on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 8:25am

Ran, Obama has not ruled out a VAT. In fact, if you actually listen to what
he says when asked about the VAT (and just as importantly what he does not
say) you would understand. After going through the elections in 2008 and
throughout this past year, you still don’t understand how to LISTEN to what
Obama has to say. You may hear his words but you must listen to what he says
and then what he does. Obama has NEVER ruled out a VAT and as a matter of
fact, he said it would be premature to make a decision without seeing the
numbers. Either you are naive or just keeping your head in the sand.

Ran Talbott on Sun, 04/25/2010 - 6:37pm

I’m not much for political correctness, so I prefer the more precise
 “hallucinating”.

Obama “has not ruled out” dropping a Tomahawk on Faux News headquarters in
order to raise the national average IQ, either. That doesn’t make it likely.

I’ll consider your advice when you show some evidence of having taken it
yourself, instead of merely regurgitating what others have told you ABOUT
“what he says and then what he does”.

My opinion is to replace the current Income Tax with Value Added Tax. Too
many people don’t pay income tax whereas the value added tax covers everyone
who makes purchases. I have seen it work in Europe and it could work just as
well here in our country. In fact, it would catch the Europeans who come to
our country as it does to our people who visit Europe. Seems like a fair
equitable system to me.
