Title: DUI tragedy

I am in law enforcement, though not with SVPD, and find it irresponsible to
suggest SVPD is at fault. They were not the driver. Responsibility lies with
the reckless people who committed this heinous act. This is similar the the
auto fatality back in October, 2009, where the driver was intoxicated and ran
into a tree. He was at fault, leaving behind three beautiful kids and a
wonderful wife. It wasn’t even a day before folks started blaming Benson
Police for allowing this to happen. Responsibility lies totally with the
offender, and I pray he gets a sentence fitting his selfish act. Four months
in DOC followed by probation IS NOT an appropriate sentence, though more than
likely that is what we will see handed down. Prayers to family members. Thank
you for allowing me to express myself.

What would people have said WOULD BE an appropriate punishment, if instead of
a car, these scoundrel had used, a MUCH LESS dangerous, MUCH LESS LETHAL, gun
and simply fired down Fry striking the victim? We’d hear screams for “more
gun control” for the law-abiding. But because nearly everyone uses a car; we
see an outpouring of sympathy for these CRIMINALS!

Here we have two irresponsible rogues, that climbed into a 2 ton “bullet” and
with total and absolute disregard for anyone: just “fired” it down Fry blvd,
STRIKING an innocent person!

A DUI where no innocent is involved and no property damaged; should be
treated the same as if it were a gun used. If property is involved;again the
same as if a gun were used. If a person is injured: ACTUAL YEARS in PRISON. A
DUI that takes a life should be treated the same as if the person had used a
gun to commit the second degree MURDER; they KNEW they were drinking, knew
that alcohol made them impaired… but didn’t CARE!

Not saying they should stake out the bars but when the same vehicles are
there for 3-4 hours everyday at happy hour, hello!!!!

his dl for a year, what about the victim? She has a life sentence, as well as
her friends and family. My blessings and prayers go to her and her family and

I know this girl that got hit.I know how bad of shape she is in.I know the 2
that hit her, they are both very irresponsible people to get behind the wheel
of a car while drunk or having been drinking. And then to just drive off
after hitting her.Geeze have they NO Compassion? I think they should both be
in jail to pay for what they did.And his car should be took from him along
with both of their drivers lin.

You have to understand that laws are not written & enforced to protect
people. They are written & enforced to punish those who violate them. When
you start looking to government to create more laws designed to protect, you
are surrendering your liberties to an entity that is far less perfect than
the rest of us are. What happened here, & past/future DUI
fatalities/injuries, are horrible but, more laws that just invade & strip
away more of your liberties is not the solution. The solution is to enforce
our current DUI laws with less leniency & much harsher punishments to send a
strong message to anyone who thinks they can challenge the law.

Not to say he was at a bar or club, but if he was, I blame it on the police
who won’t crack down on the bars continually serving alcohol to patrons who
are clearly intoxicated. Too often, clubs are open to 2:00 am and by the time
everyone clears the parking lot, it’s about the same time this accident
happened. SV Police, why are you not cracking on these clubs? Guns and drugs
up in the club and nothing is done. They will wait until someone is shot or a
drug deal goes bad and a life is taken and will question why this happened. I
blame it on the police for not being proactive. How many more DUI
deaths/injuries have to happen before you start cruising these places more
 often?

Blaming the bartenders and the bars is not right. Unless a patron is
obviously drunk! Many people can drink well above the limit and you wouldnt
know they are drunk to look at them. And they are in a bar where the obvious
intent is to drink. Blame the idiots who know they are going to drink and
don’t make prior plans to get home. Everybody in there is an adult and they
are the only ones to blame. You can go just about anywhere in town for a 5.00
cab ride which is less than the cost of some drinks and a order of wings.
Blaming the the bartender or bar is like blaming the Circle K for selling
cigarettes. Its called personal responsibility which America is lacking these
days. However the cops in this town could be doing more.
