SIERRA VISTA — By a 21-5 vote, members of the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center medical staff adopted a resolution Tuesday night asking that a partnership agreement between the hospital and Carondelet Health care be put on hold.

Dr. Bruce Silva, who attended the meeting, at which the chief medical officer for Carondelet appeared, said the resolution was put forward by Dr. Ralph Mayberry.

It was Mayberry who recently resigned from the SVRHC board of trustees after he expressed concerns about the partnership that is to take effect April 17.

Theres has been a movement by doctors to group together and run their own
hospitals free from admin red tape, amazingly well done, too. Nurses like
tier jobs at these centers, doctors hires nurses and techs worth hiring, and
the residents who train at the facilities learn because everybody is
INVESTED. Maybe it’s time some of our docs are ready to take the bull by
the horns? I’ll set up and work my hiney off for you!

non-profit byelaws are legally required to be publicly available. and, i’m
not even sure that any non-profit is allowed by such byelaw to radically
reassign themselves to a new affiliation.there are official ways to raise
these issues: 1. contact the Coporation Commission of AZ, NOn-Profit
Division, to make a comlaint and raise legal issues; 2. file an on-line
complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Go to FTC website, then click
“contact” on the blue header at the top of the page (but in very small
print). This takes you directly the complaint form. FTC HAS intervened
successfully in this very issue in other areas, but need a large number of
complaints BEFORE they act. It comes under anti-trust laws. 3. ACLU can also
get involved if you complain. FYI one of the female doctors remaining on
staff told a group this week she herself had her tubes tied in tucson and
thought it fine for everyone else to have to go there. Great on a doctor’s
salary. Not so good for the rest of us.

I am shocked that in a community that is not 100% Catholic, a practice such
as preventing a woman from making a choice in her reporiductive ability would
be considered ethical? I am Catholic, have a large family, and have made the
decision not to have any more children because the quality of life I am able
to provide for them is reduced with each extra child. I find it equally
appalling that in a community where there are so many single mothers with
multiple baby daddies collecting government checks that a procedure to
prevent future unwanted pregnancies would be denied. I’m glad to see that Dr.
Kacenga, Dr. Silva, and Dr. Holder are thinking outside the box in terms of
how they are able to provide reasonable and necessary services to their
patients. I do believe the hippocratic oath states something to the effect of
“Above all, do no harm”. For many families, an unplanned pregnancy causes
stress both financially and emotionally. How is that not harm?

Title: Oh really...

I am not going to mention any names, but I feel that there are some hospital
officials posting outright LIES in order to convince the community that the
Catholic hospitals will do certain things that ARE NOT permitted in a
Catholic facility. I have no reason to lie about the “Plan B” medication. You
must consider that if the victim does not take the medication within 48 hours
that it may not be effective. I know that there are claims to the contrary,
but they want to put on a “good face” when they are wooing us. Then once they
are in control you discover the REAL story. Once their foot is in the door
the “honeymoon” is over. It also occurred to me that this may be the first
step in making Sierra Vista “a sanctuary city”. Illegals that go to our ER
for health care should be stabilized then turned over to the Border Patrol
for a free trip back home. “Anchor children” could be dual citizens, or left
behind to be adopted by American Citizens. That is my opinion on THAT!

I have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) Health Directive. I will not go to any
hospital if I am near death’s door. I want to die at home in my own bed. I do
not want to be tortured by doctors or neglected by nurses. I have scars from
MRSA and bedsores because of hospitals. I caught Hepatitis from an AZ
hospital. I’m not suicidal, I still see my family doctor, take medications,
and I take care of myself. I am a Christian. I trust that God will not take
me until my time. I am going to try to attend the rally at Veteran’s Park on
March 27th, at 10:00 for the sake of others in this community who have a
right to have their “advanced directives” recognized and honored. Decisions
regarding your health should be YOURS to make. My final stay in the hospital
was 19 days of torment and torture in the ICU. A doctor at SVRHC tore my
“advanced directives” up in front of me. He will never have that opportunity
again. This is the reason I updated from “no heroic measures” to a DNR.

Title: Report it

That is totally your right and choice Mommy Dearest. As far as the tearing up
your advanced directives…that is highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and
disrespectful and should be reported to the hospital administration.

I have severe allergies. One of these allergies is to contrast medication
that are used in radiologic testing. I waited for 5 hours to be seen in the
Catholic Hospital ER. I was informed that I would have to drink a contrast
solution. The staff assured me that the contrast solution did NOT contain any
of the medication that causes severe allergic reactions for me. I drank the
contrast medication. In a matter of minutes, I could feel my throat begin to
swell. My health care advocate tried to summon a nurse or a doctor. They
claimed they were too busy to attend me. I used my own epi-pen to stop the
anaphylaxis. I took some Promethizine, my face and eyes were swollen. The
nurse was surprised to see that the poison/allergen had caused a reaction.
She gave us the container that the medication had come from. It clearly
stated that it contained the substance that I had listed as one of my
allergens. I still have the letter that they sent me. Does “Sorry” make up
for attempted murder? No.

If you manage to live thru a stay at the local hospital they totally ignore
any complaints. They also ignored my advocate’s complaints. They forced me to
take medications that I did not want. How? They just put the medication into
my IV. They made me lay in my own feces until my backside was so covered with
bedsores my flesh was literally falling off of me. More complaints. No
satisfaction. Do you want to see the scars? MRSA is the “parting gift they
gave me. For the next 2 years we complained constantly while I took
antibiotics and used medications to try to cure MRSA. The hospital knows how
to shuffle you around so they hope you will give up. We complained to the
state board. I have all the proof I need, I have the scars, so YOU can see
yourself. The complaints are ignored. Before you suggest that victims
complain, give it a try. I became so frustrated that I went for mental
counseling. I felt homicidal. The scars are my PROOF I will be scarred for
the rest of my life.

You are obviously very angry and I know personally they cannot ignore
complaints. So what is your true agenda in this matter..?

Miserable Trollski on Mon, 03/15/2010 - 12:59

Sunnie Sunnie Sunnie. Complaints are routinely “ignored”, and if you work or
have worked with QC you know this. Ignored is the wrong word maybe. They are
all acted upon, with the same form letter response. Each paragraph starts out
the same. “I’m very sorry that..” Complaints to the local hospital, to the
board and to the Joint Commission are all handled in the same manner. “We are
extremely sorry that..” The agenda seems to be yours, that being spinning a
positive light on a situation that some find extremely negative. That’s fine
by me, but let others express their opinions or tell their stories about
their experience with Catholic Franchised Hospitals without automatically
branding them liars or accusing them of having some dark agenda. I have
witnessed Doctors and Nurses ignore living wills, directives and DNR’s and
called them on the carpet for it. “We sincerely apologize and are very sorry
for blah blah blah” There is no hidden agenda, some just don’t like what’s
 happening.
