Bisbee board back at full strength

BISBEE — For the first time in a few months, Bisbee school business was conducted with a full five-member board.
The two newest members, Emily Anderson and Jill McCain, the latest appointees of county school superintendent Trudy Berry, took their seats ready to jump into the business at hand.
The main item on the agenda for Monday’s meeting was to proceed with the administrative recommendations of retiring Bisbee school superintendent Gail Covington. At the last meeting, she suggested the board look no further than Bisbee for her replacement.

Rumor has it the board approved part of the plan today by appointing Mr.
Phillips as superintendent, and moving Lisa Holland to the High School. After
tabling the decision three days ago, what has changed in a week that supports
a midweek change of heart? It seems like the decision was made in haste, and
I hope, for the sake of the students, that this was the right decision. I
have no doubt that Ms. Holland will do a great job at BHS, but what will
happen to Lowell?
It’s good to see that the school board is back to full strength. The 4-day
school week concerns me. I have a granddaughter affected by this decision and
I believe it is telling on her to get through a long day. I never had to do
this and I doubt if any of you readers had to suffer through it.
