Military update: Vietnam vets should file claims ASAP

Tens of thousands of Vietnam veterans with ischemic heart disease, Parkinson’s disease or B cell leukemia should file claims now with the Department of Veterans Affairs for disability compensation, and not wait until VA publishes a regulation officially linking these diseases to wartime service.

Advocacy groups are urging the swift filing of claims because veterans eventually found eligible for disability pay for these diseases will be able to receive compensation back to the date their claims were filed.

Title: Veterans

These veterans should be applauded for their service and helped rather than
hindered when it comes to filing a compensation claim. Surely they have
earned the right to some preferential treatment.

Sir, i applaud you service to our nation back during those difficult times
fighting against the German & Japanese foes who back then wanted to
annihilate us from the face of the Earth. Thank you and i pray that the VA
will stop dragging its feet like it typically has done for many military men
& women who have been injured while fighting for our freedoms to remain. A
government entity like this should be revamped and re-tooled to help the
veterans who have served our nation honorably. In the words of my father who
was also a Marine. Semper Fi and from me, God bless you Sir. I also pray that
our men/women who are in harms way will safely come home as soon as possible
with their lives spared and those who have passed on while giving up their
lives for our nations safety. May God watch over every one who has served our
nation proudly and honorably!

What about the WW2 Veterans who have filed claims? I have filed a claim and
cannot get anyone to move on it. My paper work appears to be held in abeyance
in Phoenix. I get the feeling that the authorities are waiting for me to die
so they won’t have to deal with me. After all, WW2 is a long time in the
 past.

WW2 Marine Veteran: Do you have anyone representing you? I went through
Veteran’s Service Center in Ft Huachuca. They are located at the new
cemetery. It’s still an uphill climb, but they are there to help you.

Hello “Steve in Bisbee.” I lived there for 25 years. A nice town. Yes I
contacted through an American Legion Service Officer in Tucson (where I
currently live). He helped me with the paper work for the claim. Due to the
fact the VA in Tucson would not help me, he submitted my paper work to
Phoenix where it has been waiting about 3 months. The Service Officer told me
to see him if I am turned down. So far I have not been turned down, but I
likewise see no action. Like I stated previously WW2 is a long way behind me,
but I get the feeling no one truly cares. I did write to one of our Senators
but ahve heard nothing. Someone told me to try our Congress person.

I started my claim with the American Legion in Tucson but they weren’t doing
anything and it was nearly impossible to find anyone. I switched to Veteran’s
Services Commission and have gotten good results. They normally don’t let you
switch representatives but since I wasn’t getting any real representation
From American Legion they allowed me to switch. Best wishes for you and yours
and thanks very much for your service to keep us safe in this crazy world.
