IRS helps to understand anti-poverty program
Many people miss out on earned income credit
SIERRA VISTA — The IRS is urging taxpayers to take extra time before filing their taxes this year to determine whether they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
“The EITC is one of the largest and most effective anti-poverty programs in the government,” said David R. Williams, director of the IRS electronic tax administration.
Last year, about 24 million taxpayers received $50 billion thanks to the credit, Williams said. The average credit was more than $2,000.
