DOUGLAS — The streets of Douglas were alive with the sounds of a marching band, as people walked and carried signs to assert their rights on Thursday afternoon.
The Walk for Human Rights was one of three such events hosted by Border Action Network in southern Arizona in honor of International Human Rights Day. The others were held in Nogales and Tucson.

Why is it this depressingly predictable article has no other perspective than
that of the open door advocates? This paper is remiss in not trying to at
least pretend to present a balanced report on this “march” of a few people
imported for the event. Get rid of Shacat or educate him to his role as
reporter not promoter. Human rights? Equality? Fairness? Give it a rest.
These are poor people who come here to better their quality of life by
demeaning and degrading ours and sponging off of the American taxpayer
because they cannot support the kids they produce. We should strip and flog
employers who hire illegals and I’d be happy to wield the switch! Get ready
for a real brawl on Guiterrez’s new amnesty bill or kiss our quality of life
good bye.
What about detaining illegals in jail until they pay a fair fine for the
expenses of our law enforcement officials and jails? Then, when it’s paid,
they can go back to Mexico, or China, or where ever if they haven’t committed
a violent crime. I don’t think they would be in jail very long before they
miraculously come up with the money.
Don’t think we are trying to do away with people’s rights. But they chose to
enter illegally instead of going through the proper channels. Why don’t they
use that $2500 to live on while they’re waiting for immigration papers
instead of gambling on a coyote that doesn’t care what happens to them as
long as they get paid? Wouldn’t it be better to be here legally instead of
looking over your shoulder all the time? Get smart people, obey the law and
you will have your rights.
After re-reading this article, I am disgusted at the level of this arrogant
entitlement mentality spewing from the mouths of criminals that have the
audacity to demand respect for violating the laws of our society. Are these
people forgetting they are criminals that violated the law by entering our
country illegally? Who are they to demand respect? And who are they to define
a “Right”? Hey, criminals, “Rights” do not come from a government or
a person. “Rights” are bestowed upon you at birth & are gift to you from
your creator. Respect is not a “Right” & you most certainly can’t
demand it! Respect is a badge of honor that you earn from your peers &
respect comes on many different levels. The idea that you demand respect
because of your mere existence & your anti-law abiding behavior towards the
laws of my society sickens me to my core! The day you “Respect” the laws
of my country is the day I begin to respect you!
Yes sir “E” when you can’t provide a comprehensive argument, supported with
facts to defend your position, then “Demonize” the other side with the hate
card! LOL! You can make a villain out of everybody that is anti-ILLEGAL
immigration all you want but, that doesn’t make you any bit of the hero you
think you are.
It’s such a pity that people can harbor so much hate towards those who seek
nothing other than the life we are fortunate to lead in a prosperous country.
I can understand the adversity towards opening the border completely, but
it’s clear that we need immigration reform in this country to provide a
realistic path to citizenship for the already-present contributing members of
our society. Many of them pay taxes here as well.
We are in the process of reforming immigration. It’s called “enforcement
through attrition” achieved as employers are forced to hire only American
citizens. You want to provide a “realistic path to citizenship for the
already-present contributing members of our society”. Well, first they aren’t
all contributing members. Many are engaged in criminal activities. Second,
there are 22-30 million illegals here at a time over 50 million Americans are
unemployed. Who do we employ then? Third, why is it our job to provide a home
to some other country’s outcasts most of whom (85%) come from Mexico—a very
wealthy country! Your concern may be genuine but take a look at how the
presence of so many low-skilled, high breeding people adversly affect our own
people’s opportunities and the environment. With 6.6 billion people in the
world, most of whom want a better life here, how many do you suggest we
accept? What are you prepared to sacrifice for them? Are you legally here?
So what if they pay taxes. They are criminals and should be treated as such.
You probably want criminals all over the county but I sure don’t want them
here. Deport every last one of them.
No dances, you are very incorrect. Everyone doesn’t have the right to go live
in the country they choose. The reason that ALL countries have immigration
laws is to protect the country. If everyone just moved to the country of
their choice, successful countries, like the US used to be, would be
overwhelmed by too high of a population. The infrastructure cannot support
unlimited immigration. Once that happens, it becomes a third-world nation
when you have a high percentage of the population, uneducated that takes more
from the system than contributes. EVERY country has immigration laws to
protect unchecked immigration. No one has the RIGHT to come into any country
without going through the correct channels. The US isn’t a charity handout
for every other country. If the citizens of these countries have problems at
home, they aren’t going to be solved by running into the US. They need to
stay home and fight for their rights in their homeland. There’s the real
solution.
I’d also like to add isn’t it safer to enter this country through the correct
channels. These people entering illegally pay money, some getting lost in the
desert and left behind if they get injured. And others are crammed into
vehicles only to be driven by wreckless drivers. Which way makes more sense
to you?
