Former fort deputy commander dies
FORT HUACHUCA — A former deputy commanding general of the Army Strategic Communications Command on the post in 1967 who had set up the first Signal Corps network on Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 has died.
Retired Brig. Gen. Gordon B. Cauble, a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, served as the No. 2 leader of STRATCOM in the late 1960s.
As a lieutenant colonel, he went ashore in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, with the 29th Division as its signal officer.
