Hawaiians like what they hear from Buena band

HONOLULU — Rhythm and timing equals soul.

 

That’s what Buena High School Show Band members heard during a music clinic Wednesday at the University of Hawaii. After hearing the group from Sierra Vista for an hour, Thomas R. Bingham said, “You go rhythm, you got timing, you got soul.”

But, before he made that declarative statement, the dean of the College of Arts and Humanities put the students through a number of noteworthy musical paces — individually, sectional and entirely.
