BISBEE — Upon meeting the young woman with the big smile and fresh face, you would never suspect that she spent entire days in a drug- and alcohol-induced fog just a few months ago.

Shayla Folkes, who has spent the past three months in recovery at the Renaissance House, the local women’s shelter, is trying her best to get her life in order so she can return to her family.

The 31-year-old had planned for a career in communications and looked forward to reporting, something she really wanted to do. But life, alcohol and drugs got in the way.

Welcome to the light, Shayla! You are a great encouragement to others who got
lost in the darkness and made their way into the light. What an amazing story
and there are many more out there. There are some who are really experiencing
horrific experiences in the addiction life and I pray they too will find
their way out through your example. God bless! Great writing, Shar Porier!
