Arizona has 14th highest hunger rate in nation

In Arizona, 329,000 households (13.2 percent) struggled with hunger from 2006 to 2008, giving our state the 14th highest rate in the country, according to a new report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
While that number represents an almost 12 percent decrease from 10 years ago, it’s an 8 percent increase from five years ago.
The number of households living in very low food security, defined as frequent cutting back or skipping meals based on survey results from the report, rosemore than 51 percent in the last five years.
