Voters flunk budget override: School plan fails, 58-plus percent to more than 41 percent
SIERRA VISTA — Voters made it clear at the polls on Tuesday that they do not want an extension of the Sierra Vista Unified School District’s current 10 percent maintenance and operation budget override.
Based on unofficial results provided by the Cochise County Elections Department, a total of 4,480 people, or more than 58 percent, voted against the override, while 3,130, or more than 41 percent voted for it. These results are conclusive, according to Tom Schelling, county elections director.

In a previous post by HR, I was called ‘undereducated’. How does THAT work?
They voted no and now they think they have the right to tell me I’m
undereducated??? And another thing: HR’s main insult to me is that I’m a
‘Liberal’. But I’m not. I’m a child, and I don’t have a political standing. I
don’t care about what I should be classified as. That’s the problem with
society, is that they thing everyone has to be a Democrat or Republican. But
How can I be a liberal if I am Anti-abortion? (I don’t want to start an
argument about that though.) If I’m a ‘Typical Liberal’ why is it that I
don’t believe in every thing that they do?
Everyone has a political standing, they just may not realize it. Personally,
I think good chunk of politicians have become crooks only looking out for
themselves and their interests, and not the interests of the people who voted
for them.
Shi14, You aren’t a “typical liberal”. However, you do appear to have liberal
leanings. Just because you are a kid doesn’t mean you don’t have a political
standing. You do have a political standing and that’s a good thing! You are
selling yourself short if you discount yourself by saying “I’m a child”. We
all have beliefs, children and adults alike, so stand up and be counted. :)
You just proved me right by this post. You don’t understand that liberal and
conservative are different than Republican or Democrat. I consider myself a
Conservative but not a Republican even though I am registered as a
Republican. There are some Republicans that are liberal. Take Snow the rep
from Maine. She is a Republican but is very Liberal. Sure most Conservatives
are Republicans and most Liberals are Democrat but they are two different
things. The way you talk in your posts suggest that you are a liberal. There
are some liberals that are anti-abortion too. You may be a child but you act
like a spoiled brat from the way you talk to adults in this forum. You have
no manners at all and that is a reflection of how your parents raised you.
I’d just like to tell you that I can’t possibly be a liberal, because I’m a
KID. I have no standing in politics. Why does everyone have to be put into a
specific category?
You are most certainly a liberal because of your views. Being a kid does not
mean you cannot have political views. The minute you posted here you spouted
your liberal political views. If you can’t see than then you are blind.
I think part of our problem was you and I were talking about 2 different
things at times. Examples were, the PTO/PTA and I think some now call it
PSTO(parent, student, teacher organization), The other was admin. I knew it
as the office staff the clerks at the office counter. And you were referring
to Principal/Assistant Principal. I think we are starting to understand each
other better. I found nothing about the new security procedures just that
small section from Oct 09. And that didn’t talk about security.
I’m new here (to forums) but wanted to see what people were saying about this
issue. I didn’t vote for the override; my taxes haven’t gone down, they’ve
gone up successively since moving. My grandkids go to school here, I’ve been
to functions & not liked what I’ve seen. After the override was voted for
(the one that passed), I saw an excess in that budget of $2 million,
according to their own statements. I saw that sup retired out with fanfare
rather than being held accountable. She should have been fired. Good teachers
& good cops are worth their weight in gold; you can’t pay them what they’re
worth or enough for doing the job. I agree that parents need some ownership;
too many don’t whether it’s because of time or caring. I would be willing to
pay more if I saw a willingness to sacrifice on the part of administrators,
less of the guilt trip being laid upon taxpayers.
Could you please expand on what you saw that you did not like.
Amazed, no I don;t fully understand the override, but I’m trying to. Let me
start from square 1. The schools were trying to get $7 a month through
property tax increase. What is property tax here(the definition). I always
thought it that was another word for real estate tax. I googled property tax
in AZ. and it mentioned real estate. A co-worker told me I was wrong. That
property tax was anything you owned, cars, quads, trailers, boats, campers.
