FORT HUACHUCA — While there may be an unemployment problem in the country, the post is suffering from a lack of applicants for civilian jobs, a senior Army officer said.
On Wednesday, garrison commander Col. Timothy Faulkner said there are nearly 800 vacant civilian positions on the fort.

There was a job for medical records supervisor which my wife applied for
since she has college degrees in the field and is nationaly certified. She
was contacted for the job, and had an interview. The hiring offical told here
she was completely qualified and was the best applicant so far but because
she is the wife of a retiree and no to someone on active duty she was told
that they couldn’t hire her. They set the criteria for who they hire so they
create their own problem and have to hire a less qualified person. Another
example is the transition from contractor to DA civilians, I have worked for
nearly 6 years as an instructor in all areas of the course I teach at and
have trained other instructors. After I applied for the same job as a DA
civilian I was qualified and watched others who have the same background as
me but have done far less at the course recieve the DAC positions. It’s their
own fault.
I have been trying to get a job on post now for over a year and half with not
even as much as one call back for an interview. This article is the biggest
baloney I have read this month. They aren’t hurting too bad apparently. They
only hire people who know people and have special connections. COL Faulkner,
maybe you need to review how those jobs are filled.
Maybe you should try to network a little more that way you would have some
connections to folks on post. Not their fault your resume doesn’t reflect
your qualifications so you never get called back either.
It’s convenient to blame everybody else, but perhaps it’s not everybody else.
Maybe it’s just you. Perhaps you’re not qualified for the positions you are
applying for or your resume doesn’t reflect the proper experience wanted by
the employers. It is difficult to break into federal service because veterans
have preference. Often the easiest route is to get hired on as a government
contractor, so you’ll get the specialized experience needed.
Jesse, why would I apply for a job that I know I don’t qualify for? I only
apply for jobs that I know I qualify for so please keep your rude comments to
yourself.
I agree you have to apply for every thing. I’m D.O.D. this past year alone
I’ve applied for 83 jobs. Since Nov 07 I have 5 pages of jobs I’ve applied
for. Is your resume even getting referred? If not something is wrong with it
and you need to revise it. Also you might have to start with a job that you
don’t care for just to get your foot in the door. Check into the different
programs they have. They do have intern programs. If you only apply for 1 job
every one or 2 months you’re chances are really slim. Try different sites
also. Maybe there is something in Tucson.
It’s not rude, if you have ever been involved in a hiring action on post you
would understand why I said it. EVERYBODY applies for everything just on the
off chance that they might get a job. If you truly have been applying for a
year and a half for jobs you are qualified for, you need to relook at your
resume.
Let’s see, I have been an Army trained Human Resources Spec for over 8 years
now and I have been applying for the same exact job with the same duties.
Don’t tell me what is wrong when you do not even know the situation.
Punchbug69, I know what you are talking about. I can apply for the exact same
job in 2 different areas. One place will refer my resume and the next place
says not qualified. Thats the way it is. Just keep trying, and like I
mentioned be willing to do another job just to get your foot in the door.
I’ve been trying since June to go to Afghanistan or Iraq. My resumes get
referred but I’m still here.
Punchbug69, Jesse was attempting to point out some area you might have not
thought of. You began posting with a rude tone, but being out of work for 18
months can do that. of course none of us know your situation because we don’t
know you. We can only offer insight we others have unknowingly overlooked in
the past. My husband was Army trained in commo with 10 years of experience
and still is looking for a government job! He has leadership skills and is an
OIF 50% combat related wounded vet with points preference, so don’t be
discouraged. In the mean time, drop the chip because no one is out to get
you.
