FORT HUACHUCA — They are not small box homes.
They are for soldiers of any rank, no longer for noncommissioned officers and above as many old grunts would remember.
And, they are not cheek-by-jowl duplexes, fourplexes or sixplexes.
On Thursday, two soldiers, a junior enlisted woman and a senior male NCO, and their families got to see where they will be living.

Soldiers pay for it by a loosing part of their paycheck once they accept
military housing.
If a soldier stays on the fort in military housing they have to pay for it? I
know some soldiers who get from the army $2000 a month to live off base. I am
not judging just wondering.
The BAH is based on location, meaning it is adjusted dependant on the locale
one lives in. It is higher in Arlington, Virgina than it is here in Sierra
Vista or San Diego because the cost of securing a rental is different, as are
utilities. It is then adjusted based on rank and to some degree number of
dependents, meaning with or without dependents. If you have to live off post
or base overseas the cost may be different as well because of the location
and suprisingly not all countries include things like kitchen cabinets and
lighting in the rental property. So, what exactly is that supposed $2000
supoose to cover? Rent, parking, all utilites (ie heat water and gas only) is
it overseas? many factors here
If you are talking about a Soldier at Ft. Huachuca, that’s impossible for
them to get that much money for housing off post. A General would get a
little less than 1700 for off post housing. And that is substantially more
than most Soldiers get. You’re source of information is incorrect.
Yes they get paid BAH and the BAH goes straight to the contractor who built
the new housing. The pay taken out is based on what the soldier’s BAH off
post.
I guess it comes down to the fact that some of us appreciate what we have…
others don’t… regardless. Let’s just be happy for the families fortunate to
live in the new homes…
calling US narrow-minded. Now that is priceless!
“A 20 year soldier” refers to her years in service, not her age.
Nice, but totally absurd. We cannot as a nation afford this lavishness, no
matter the intent.
After billions were given to the auto workers, who have outrageous pay and
benefits—to make sure their standard of living was maintained and they
didn’t lose any benefits while their autos suck—we can’t take care of our
military??????? There is a huge set of double standards here, it is
disgusting. Lavishness was the bailouts—giving money to the wealthy—that
money did not go to everyday Joe. Seriously folks, I think this country has
finally gone crazy.
