Briggs & Eggers Orchard: A tradition of quality and freshness

Melissa and Lance Eggers who with her parents, Joe and Jean Briggs, run the 400-acre Briggs & Eggers organic orchard north of Willcox, sample peaches each morning so they can harvest them at the peak of ripeness. Thirty-nine wind machines mix warm, high air with colder air near the ground to keep peach blossoms from freezing during late spring frosts. “We Pick” farm stand is now open for peach sales.

We should consider ourselves lucky to live near a prime fruit growing region north of Willcox along Ft. Grant Road. Recently, I visited the 400-acre Briggs & Eggers Orchard there, a leader in certified organic fruit, whose apples, peaches and pears are brought to area farmers markets by other growers.
“We have a perfect growing environment for fruit,” explained Lance Eggers who runs this family operation with his wife, Melissa, and her parents, Joe and Jean Briggs.
