Ted Williams popsicle night is on tonight

BISBEE -- The much anticipated "Ted Williams Popsicle Night" finally happens tonight at Warren Ballpark.
Once gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the final game of a four-game series between the Bisbee-Douglas Copper Kings and the Cananea Mineros, the first 500 fans will receive a free popsicle.

This comical promotion is done in the memory of Hall-of-Fame slugger Ted Williams who died in 2002 and had his body kept at a cryogenics laboratory in Scottsdale.
The media attention the promotion -- which was the inspiration of Copper Kings General Manager John Guy -- has been astounding. There have been mentions of the promotion in the New York Daily News, Sports Illustrated, a variety of Internet news sites, and it is reported that ESPN will be sending a camera crew down from Tucson to tape tonight's festivities.
A thousand popsicles have been ordered for tonight's game. The other 500 will be sold at the concession stand.
