Police investigating death of teenager
SIERRA VISTA — The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a local 16-year-old after she apparently fell in the shower this morning.
In a statement released today, Spokeswoman Carol Capas said the sheriff’s office was notified of a medical call from a residence in the 5000 block of Apache Street south of Sierra Vista. The caller reported that the 16-year-old had apparently fallen in the shower. Fry Fire medical personnel responded to the scene and began providing medical assistance the the unresponsive young woman before she was transported to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center where she was pronounced deceased.
The sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation into the death pending the results of an autopsy taking place today, though no foul play is suspected.
“Any time an unexpected death occurs, we have to investigate that, specifically if the victim is not currently under a doctor’s care,” Capas said.
The 16-year-old was a Buena High School Student and the school has been notified and will set up counseling session for those that request them, Capas said.
